Algeria's parliament has unanimously passed a law declaring France's colonisation of the North African state a crime, and demanding an apology and reparations. The law also criminalises the glorification of colonialism, state-run TV reports.https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c14vdpyj1vjoThe vote is the latest sign of increasingly strained diplomatic relations between the two countries, with some observers saying they are at their lowest since Algeria gained independence 63 years ago.France's President Emmanuel Macron has previously acknowledged the colonisation of Algeria was a "crime against humanity" but has not offered an apology.

France has history as one of the worst colonisers in history... The countries they colonize hardly recovers. They drain them to the last bit. Till date they haven't fully stepped aside from their ex colonies. France is really a horrible |

France did the north African countries shege. Same way Belgium economically plundered the Congo while Britain did same with Nigeria. Meanwhile, to think that this is the same France the balablu bulava dumbass back home is frolicking with its covertly disguised taxation policy tells how neocolonialism have creeped back again to us in full force. |

All these people called politicians just disgracing Africa everywhere. No wonder white people always think Africans are 🐒. Is there no single law maker in there to tell them that laws do not have retrospective effects? They can do all sorts in their country, nobody cares but they should forget that reparation or whatever they are asking for. It sounds very dumb and stoop!d in front of an international audience. |

France colonisation of African countries was one of the biggest crimes against humanity. The kind of inhumane treatment faced by the africans in their colonies can be compared to what slaves experienced during the slave trade era. They used African soldiers to fight world war 2, put them on the frontline where most of them perished. After the war was won, it was their European soldiers that matched onwards. The Africans for zero acknowledgment, zero compensation. Algerian and Senegalese soldiers that were most vocal about collecting their settlement were called in for discussion where they were rounded up and killed. Till date they're still collecting taxes from their colonies despite exploiting them of their natural resources. E get why Burkina Faso, Niger and Mali take koboko to pursue them out of their country. No country brutalised it's African colonies worse than the French which begs the question why is our president frolicking with them? |

Good news from a country that love his people. Late Abiola was advocating for reparations for African and the west planned his death. Thank you Algeria for rekindled Abiola wish since I know that Nigeria politicians can never do this but only interested in looting the nation dry |

Scorpio99:What sort of slave mentality is this? What sort of retrogressive thinking is this? A call for reparations is usually a long shot but not impossible, some countries have achieved some level of progress in that direction. |

tesseract:Your comment was wrong because you made from a point of hatred and emotions and hatred yet you are refusing to take corrections. For your own good, learn to control your emotions I asked you a very very simple question yet you avoided it. When was Nigeria ever a French colony? Also, the relationship Nigeria is presently having with France is one of mutual respect and not master and slave but your emotional hatred is blinding you from logic |

Go and read what Belgium did in Congo. The king needs to be exhumed and tried for crimes against humanity. |

stuffs2002:This is a very silly comment. France supported Nigeria. USSR (Czechoslovakia) gave 2 fighter jets to Nigeria. Britain gave arms and bombers to Nigeria. Egypt lent it's pilots and fighter jets to Nigeria. Lybia gave foot soldiers to Nigeria. Niger gave foot soldiers.... These are just a few. The archives are there, Google is your friend. Please stop peddling lies. Anyways... You know, one thing colonization did wrongly is the amalgamation of different tribes, lands areas into one nation, also the splitting of one people into different nations. This has been the core problem of African progress, and main cause of the endless wars in Africa. And all these were done for their selfish financial gains. |

stuffs2002:No hatred, no emotions anywhere. It is what it is. With the way you are trying to forcefully convince me, it appears you are the emotional person here. The truth is bitter and you don't want to admit it. Are you aware Algeria has just joined the call for reparations for the crimes committed against them by France? Ask yourself, Why are former French colonies trying really hard to escape the grip of France? Neocolonialism is a reality, whether you like it or not. As for the mutual respect relationship you mentioned, I'm just laughing at your ignorance. Until you see the agreement (MOU) signed between Nigeria and France on certain issues, you can't conclude that it's a mutually respectful relationship. But time will tell, don't worry. |
