The issue is corruption.
Just see Malami 212 Billion heist.
When this tax is collected, won't it be looted just as oil revenue inflow and others are stolen?
Government needs to curb corruption! Before any tax implementation

Anyone earning 800k and above, will be taxed,

This means, even those earning the 70k minimum wage will equally be taxed 15%?

Where then is the fairness to low income earners?

Show receipt of the last tax you paid as a Nigerian?
You are not even sure, that's why u asking if you have not been paying tax.
Nigeria's tax system is so poor that we don't even know the type of taxes that exist.
Make una ready to pay tax simple.
Richtaiwo:
I don't know why I'm personally not interested in this tax law thingy. What's the fuss all about? Have we not been paying tax either directly or indirectly? Is this Tax Act gonna change how we used to get taxed?

The only thing I could deduce is that it appears the rich will suffer heavy taxation. So why should I be particularly concerned knowing it won't affect the average citizens? Abi na my small "30k bmc allowance" (according to pitobi people) dem want begin dey impose tax on?

I really pity Taiwo Oyedele. Dude left PWC where he was worshiped like a god globally to take up the tax reform job thinking it’s going to be a piece of cake like he made his job at KPMG looked like.
^^^
cheesy

This is funny.

Worshipped globally?

Those who 'worshipped' him obviously need urgent medical attention.

seunmsg:
Today, he has to deal with all kinds of lies, misinformation, misinterpretation, personal attacks, etc.

From governors attacking him to northerners calling him names to journalist like Rufai Oseni reporting outright falsehood to paid Twitter influencers tweeting outlandish nonsense to a whole lots of stuff. Today, the new nonsense they are throwing around is a forged law. Banger boys like Peter Obi etc have quickly jumped on it even without evidence of any irregularity.
^^^
grin

You are barking up the wrong tree.

Oyedele and his principal overpromised - and then underdelivered. As usual. undecided

Oyedele used 'runs girls' to illustrate the scope and breadth of the new tax laws. undecided He completely ignored the mixed messages being sent about taxing an activity that is still illegal under Nigerian law. undecided You can't expect much from such a man.

seunmsg:
So, when people oversimplify governance, I just look at them and laugh at their ignorance. When Elon Musk started DOGE under Trump, someone told him he will soon find out that it’s easier to land a rocket in space than to lead a reform in public sector. Elon barely lasted five months in the Job.
^^^
No.

Just like BAT and Oyedele here, Musk overpromised - and underdelivered.

Musk was more interested in a circus show (with chainsaw massacre references and similar nonsense) than any real attempt at serious public sector reform. No one should be surprised at the outcomes.

BAT is playing the same game here. BAT lectures ordinary Nigerians about the 'fake life' they were living before he came on board...only for him to continue with the egregious profligacy of his predecessors. undecided Let us look at a visible example: BAT removes fuel import subsidies - and yet continues to drive in convoys a hundred plus cars strong. Is it any surprise we are running three federal budgets concurrently, our fiscal space is shot to hell and the foreign debt trap is about to spring shut? undecided

Nigerians will learn.
Re: Bayo Onanuga Replies Those Asking For Suspension Of New Tax Laws by Berankis:
I know a lot of people defending this sacrilege are doing so on the premise of ethnicity, partisanship or gratification. We act as though we have sold our souls for money. Nigerians never objected to paying taxes, but demand for transparency and accountability which the current Government lacks.
When the same criminals said they would remove subsidy, a lot of us supported them in good faith, but no account has been given till date on how the money is put to use.
We all know that this shady tax collusions will also go down the same drain as the fuel subsidy funds. The writing is already on the wall with all the machinations, alterations, falsifications and transmogrifications.
I will state emphatically and without prevarications that A GOVERNMENT THAT WILL FORGE ANY POLICY DOCUMENTATION/IMPLEMENTATION WILL NOT DELIVER ANY GOOD TO THE PEOPLE!
It cannot happen!! This evasive, treacherous and absolutely corrupt Government of Tinubu has lost the trust of the people. He is a well-known manipulator, whom had over the years raised an army of co-manipulators and financial bandits to lead a Government of doom they term - Technocracy.
We are 2 and half years already into this administration, still no functional power supply. Power is now being distributed with a lot of segregations and discriminations. Fuel prices have turned to battle for life.
Tinubu will eventually squander a lot of this money, throw the country into more penury and at the end of the day - HE WILL COME PUBLIC TO APOLOGISE FOR HIS FAILURE OF PERFORMANCE. Both himself, his apologies and his bunch of technocratic thieves will all be discarded and even prosecuted after his administration.

You think you have the facts of this law, but sadly, you don't. By the time , you realize it, Tinubu is alright on his second term, and doesn't give a shi1t about you. cheesy cheesy

Every other Nigerian cannot be daft excluding you and Oyedele
Governance, Public Service/Public Sector Reform has never been Rocket Science, just that your St. Oyedele willingly submitted himself to work with your god - that lacks integrity!
He's bound to be soiled!
There are so many Nigerians who can carryout this reform with sincerity, but not when Tinubu is at the helms.
Even the Obi you mentioned, has managed his personal businesses all his life and cannot be compared with one man who has lived out his life juggling public finance.

The bolded is where you lack understanding and where the govt applied divide and conquer because they know people like you will feel unconcerned forgetting it would still affect the common man. Now let me explain..... The people you call the rich are mostly the ones controlling your economy, they are the ones importing, manufacturing, trading, e.t.c
Once govt imposes heafty tax on them, they will pass on the excesses to the masses by increasing prices of products and poor masses who think it doesn't affect them will bear the full cost. Recently, Dangote explained why Cement is costlier in Nigeria than the ones he exports to other countries.... Guess why? It's because of the heafty taxes by your Govt.

If you earn 70k monthly, that's 840k annually. Only 40k would have 15% tax rate applied to it, not the whole amount.
Everybody will have their first 800k of annual income tax free. That's the idea. You have to earn a minimum of 12m annually to pay more tax than before, under this new law.
All this dust is fuss over nothing.

Just listen to yourself, defending outright criminality,if it wasn't altered as alleged, government Gazetted copy and what they national assembly passed is already in the public domain.
In higher climes, people are taxed and they can clearly point at what their taxes are used for,not when you borrow recklessly and you are seeking for a way to appease bretton wood institutions,at the detriment of the dying masses.
You dont tax poverty, suffocating the people, with multiple taxes, the same people that provide water, electricity and security for their businesses and home. We are going to be taxed on what we buy and what we sell, what we earn and what we spend. When subsidy was removed in petroleum,we were promised heaven on earth but guess what?the situation worsened, the discounted fare buses promised to be made available in every nook and cranny of this nation,is no where to be found. In the first 3 month of the removed subsidy regime, they told us they made trillions as never been made before but guess what, they still went on borrowing spree.
We wont just watch this impunity, our voice and actions will be louder than ever.
Education subsidy removed, every subsidy previously enjoyed by Nigerians, removed and yet, like Oliver twist, they want more and absolutely nothing to show for it.
In developed countries, people pay taxes of different types.

You guys keep nailing the government for constant borrowing while you're here criticising taxation.

Let's see if the taxes won't be put to reasonable use that is why people can truly criticise it.

Which country is Dangote selling cement lesser amounts and what's their tax structure? You think you're paying tax? Travel out first and don't go far, go to Benin Republic and find out. Manufacturers and business owners have been pushing costs to the consumers since time immemorial even without increase in tax. It's not like there's going to be any significant changes in tax return even for the rich. Most people will pay lesser or next to nothing.

A maladministration of tribally ethnically motivated government are willing to force the altered Tax laws on Nigerians.

The way this rascality and illegality is developing is forcing the believe that it will be used for tribal and political supremacy contest and benefits.

I will not be surprised if the fake altered reforms are mostly tribally executed in the South than the North. This law will fail in the North because subjects can't tax their mas, sters.Islam abhors any form of taxes and I dare Tinubu and his agents to try this in the North and see the consequences

It will be used as a power show in the South 100% by those who feel insecure for years that some people from "other region" are making money in their state

Tribalism will destroy the Implementation. Get ready for tribal and parapo execution of the fake reforms by a tribally influenced maladministration of snatch and grab
