If this government is not wicked, why always talking about tax why not increasing unemployment in Nigeria.

Government corruption and theft 90%

The Timubu administration is fixates on tax to assuage for the massive corruption and expenditures of unprecedented state theft and financial costs of turning Nigeria into a single party state

The one they have been collecting, what are they using it for?
So you think that revenue from ten million can satisfy 220 million?

If you like, call me apc supporter grin.

If you were paying one third of your income, and some politican was looting like alpha beta, you think you and millions would sit down and watch?

Also, do you think that it is possible for a country to have enough money when only ten million out of 230 million are paying tax.

I no dey support government, but let's be serious here.
Story.

Am I paying tax? Yes.
Are politicians stealing our money? Yes.

Some individuals don't even pay income tax in some countries. Asides income tax, there are others like VAT, import duties and the rest.

All you said is jargons.

It's funny how this man becomes the most hated human in Nigeria. Carrying bad energy and bad name for tinubu's govt.

Maybe they should start with telling us what they expended all the revenue Nigeria generated for the past years. Quick to throw out numbers when it suits them.
there's no difference between the man and Tinubu. I don't know why they are separating the two

Timubu removed fuel subsidy and promised more infrastructure and better conditions. Nothing happened. Things are even far worse

Tinubu is the tax and it anyone esle

How many Nigerians have jobs with stable income

How many private companies, schools pay minimum wage

Is it not when there are good paying jobs we talk of tax. Oyedele wants to tax people earning 800k. That 66k a month. Can he survive on 66k a month
Tell him
Tax only work in countries that have a large middle class citizens,in Nigeria there is no middle class. In the Us for instance income tax bring over 1$ trillion dollars annually from the middle class of over 180 million citizens.Even if Nigeria tax unborn children the income generated would not still be enough for any meaningful development minus corruption.Solution: Create policies that stimulate the emergence of a large middle class..

Active government infrastructure development in Nigeria less than 2%.

You want Nigerians to be patriotic to a country that is not patriotic to it's citizens.

Well, I know that revenue from ten million is not sufficient for 220 million

If you think your government is not doing well, then run for office and do a better job, or keep quiet please.

Why won't it be less than 2 % when only one million people pay tax and when 1.5 million bpd is what we rely on for most of the revenue?

And then in comes stealing and corruption.

It's like you are engaging in magical thinking. You are like the guy who gives his wife N30 to make a large pot of soup that is supposed to last a week, and get angry when she can't do so.

Revenue generation is never Nigeria's problem, neither is increasing revenue generation the solution to Nigeria's problem. Proper spending devoid of corruption is the solution.
Even if we make x10 of what we make today, we will have nothing to show for it if the main problem is not addressed.

Malami is now alleged to have looted over 200b, how much do u think other politicians have looted?
If you continue to pay for services I don't render and you don't ask questions, why should I render any services.

If Nigerians want to end waste and corruption in government they should resist increased taxation so the government puts two and two together and fights it FOR THEIR OWN GOOD.

That is how developed countries got to where they are. No one wants pay out of the abundance of his poverty, need or hard work for government services and have the money stolen, wasted and services not delivered.

Well, we earn oil money from 1.3-2 million bpd in this country. That would be enough if we had a population like Libya (6-7 million ) or UAE (15 million.). Saudi has 40 million people and earns oil money from 11 million bpd.

Nigeria has 230 million. Our per capita oil income would be far far less than that of Saudi or UAE.

That's why we cannot live like the Saudis and UAE. If we tried that monthly payment for citizens, we would be in godawful debt that would make our current debt look like chickenfeed...no like something a poor man deposits in a bank.

If you read my posts, you will see I scream out loud about diversification, fighting corruption, widening the tax net and also...crucially, becoming an industrial economy. That would even make us earn millions times what Saudi and UAE earn.

And you can call me agbero, and apc supporter, but if your party was in power, I would say the same thing. We are not earning enough from tax and we are using poverty as an excuse.
Borrowing for what or for whom.
Let the people know.
Transparency, participatory government is the panacea for all these drama.

Let me know what you are spending my money on and let me decide if it is worth borrowing for. That is REAL democracy.

But here a good chunk of expenditure goes to things elements in government want, not what the people need.

You leave roads you should be repairing and go and be building ones nobody asked for and go borrowing to fund it. Who sent you.

If you conducted a poll and asked Abuja residents if 86 billion of their hard earned tax naira should have gone to renovate ICC for example. How many will have raised their hands when they don't have running water in their homes.

Now you berate them for resisting more of that.
You must be joking.

If government wants more money it should come to equity and see the people as partners not as fodder.

In other climes people don't just vote people into power. They also vote for what they do in power (through representation) with their resources and are part and parcel of what and how government spends.

Why then should we have bi-cameral legislature. Why should we have ministers for and ministers of when we know we don't have money? Why are our president, governors and political office holders travel frequently on our extacode? And can afford millions of dollars tuition fees for their children abroad.

You have been all over the thread saying this one thing. Fair enough, we concede that: more people need to be taxed to increase revenue for meaningful development. But you have said little about the pervasive corruption that makes additional tax payments in this climate an extremely idiotic exercise. Unless you are personally benefitting from the corruption, I see no reason for you to staunchly defend the idiocy of increased taxation in an environment where the vast majority of the sums would definitely be looted and not used for it's intended purpose. The cart can not come before the horse. Fix the all-pervading corruption, show transparency and accountability in their accounting books, use revenue judiciously for its intended purpose, then the government would be justified in seeking for my taxes. Well meaning Nigerians should, at this critical moment, join voices calling for government accountability and competence first before anything else.

No, I'm serious. They loot because they know they can replace the money with more oil or borrowing revenue. If most of our money for treasury came from taxes, people would not take it easy if someone was looting their money.

That's why we have never had a true national revolution in this country. Awa money is something abstract, it is not something that we know comes from our pocket.
I just can't help laughing at your analogy. "they loot because the money comes from free oil" grin grin grin grin

Ofcourse you approve of corruption. If not you will know that Sealing the leaks in a bucket is more important than pouring more water into the buckets.

Until the leaks are sealed , raising more money by sqeezing it out of the already impoverished masses won't change a thing.

Everyone in the country is already paying tax in one form or the other, even when they are getting less than expected from the government. and not paying more tax isn't corruption.
The real corruption is embezzling and not being accountable for what has be pooled together from our natural resources and the taxes being collected. If you can't get this then it is unfortunate that you cat be helped. There is no point engaging you further.
