Anime movies actually take months to hit streaming...
Chainsawman was different because MAPPA was in charge of everything...

Demon Slayer won't hit streaming till like March
Na lie.... Na UFOTABLE dey mad. Their movies always take like 8 months before you see am.

His earlier work was top tier sha.
He deserves his flowers.
Even at that, I dare say most people won't miss even his best two movies in Terminator and Titanic.

All though, I can't ignore his technical achievements in film.

A beloved franchise making a return after about 2 decades.
Suitable for both kids and adults (who were once the kids who loved it in their childhood)

An easy 500m box office return...

Lmao
Actually, on a second thought, ATLA is not as big as I thought.
The movie is a sequel to a popular kids show from almost 2 decades ago...

It's not as popular or beloved internationally as it is in America. Most fans have probably moved past this childhood show and only a select few loud fans on social media wànk the show everyday...

But it should still make at least 200m, then it can hit streaming. Chainsawman hit over 170m on a 4m production budget...
An ATLA movie would definitely make profit...

Paramount either don't trust the success of the franchise or simply bank on drawing subscribers to their streaming service

Those costumes especially the armour ain't giving at all..... But at the end of the day, no be costume we go chop. Might need more trailers to build my confidence tho....

But........I'll be there.
Hollywood have lost the plot when it comes to costuming, it was completely obvious from set photos that both this and wuthering heights costumes will not be historically accurate, they have forgotten that costumes are not just there for the aesthetics but to convey stories too

Jafar Panahi delivers an intense thriller. At first, it seems slow and you're wondering what you're looking at. Still, you're left guessing cos it teases you in a way you want to see how it ends. Well, it doesn't take long for things to truly kick off and from there it takes you on a wild ride of revenge, h@te, conflicting morals.
It is an emotional rollercoaster, cos you're left with feeling finishing off one who has wronged you, while also feeling compassionate and not devolving into the same demons who had tormented you.

It is a story that revolves on a man kidnapping and seeking revenge against a government official who tormented him in prison some years back. Will he go ahead with his plan for vengeance or will his better judgement take over?

It's a classic defiant film to the powers that be in Iran. A rebellion against the autocratic regime and it's agents of chaos and subjugation.

I think it's a satire of some sort, of Iranian society and how the people one can term "evil" also have their "human" side— vice versa. The duality of man. Having equal measure of showing empathy and cruelty at the same time. Everyone has that capacity.

"They used violence, so we should do the same? Then there's no end".

Now wtf was that ending. That ending leaves things in an ambiguous manner. Well, one can assume dude is well and truly fk€d. grin

Even before that, when they were arguing about the bees over spaghetti, she was serious and you could tell she was really what he said she was. I also liked that satisfying pop at the end...
I'll try and see the original everyone keeps talking about.
Some conspiracy theories are definitely real, but who'd believe there are Andromedans on earth disguised as humans. The burden of proof is too much and costly.

Iranian Cinema 💚.

I stood applauding and at the same time terrified for Vahid, after finishing this, this Christmas afternoon, because, that squeaking footsteps at the end, could only mean one thing!

This entered my must see of 2025, after the Cannes premiere, because Iranian Cinema can't seem to put a foot wrong, Their movies almost, all the time centers around the totalitarian regime and how it impedes the life of ordinary Iranians and this film, as others before it, captures it, in the most brutally honest way possible. I mean i follow, Supreme Leader Khamenei on X, and his post, speaks nothing of what we see in these films. He is always on about, women's right, freedom of speech and what not.

I would want to believe this film tends towards a satire but a sad one, as you have pointed out, you could clearly see the struggle of conscience, guilt and revenge of Vahid, as he comes face to face with his tormentor, going through hoops, to confirm if he got the right man, even with almost certain confirmation, he still helps the man, birth a child.

Btw, Neon has become my favourite distributor of foreign language indie gems like this. They have totally snatched the chains of A24!. The speed at which this and Sentimental Value (2025) came to VOD is just so so brilliant...I remember how i used to jump through hoops, literally scraping through the "Dark Web" to get these kind of films, because these 2 evil corps, A24 and Mubi would hold on to movies like this for months and months 😒😩.

I finished this film, and i instantly went to the kitchen to see what the woman of the house, has served up for this most auspicious day of our Lord and Saviour, saw a mountain load of Rice and the robust laps of the chicken, i slaughtered last night, i felt guilty for ending the poor fella's life yesterday 😒, but as i consumed this meal today, i felt zero guilt...why? you ask.... because I have just seen, a truly special special film!! 🎉✨.

Side note: The scene where they were at the desert arguing what to do with the "Tormentor" is my absolutely favourite. Ali, Goli and Vahid were showing restraint whilst relieving the horrors he did to them, meanwhile Hamid, the only clearly thinking man among them, wanted to end the tormentor's life, there and there, because he knows, you don't give the devil, a second chance. Beautiful chaos shot on a spiralling desert, i scrapped through Pinterest for a textless picture of the scene, and it's been my wallpaper since ✌🏿

Lmfao....at the bolded— what the hellyyy?? This is crazy work. 😂😂 Freedom of wetin? Women's rights. On a serious note, pertaining to Women's rights, I'm not too neck deep anymore in the goings-on in the country (in contrast to the general geopolitics) as to minute civil rights but I don't know, I kind of feel they have a better outlook to women's rights in Iran compared to Saudi Arabia and other Gulf states with little Western influence. I don't know, maybe I'm just thinking without facts here.

But wetin make you dey follow Ayatollah?? Just know say Orange Man no dey give you visa.

Bruh, they did excellent work with that directing. Even me myself began to doubt if they were actually sure he's the man and not just pure hate and a matter of them wanting to find a culprit so badly.
But that dude that wanted to kill him right there, right now, was kinda funny. His reactions I don't know just made me laugh most times. Especially that scene where he rubs his leg. Na when Peg-leg finally break performance I dey very sure say na the werey. grin

I agree with you. A24 seems to have fall off. Ever since they went to that private equity people for funding their films and artistic vision hasn't been the same again. It's so sad to see. Now they're pursuing more mainstream stuff.
NEON mahn, they're in an unbelievable GOATED run concerning having a knack for fishing out International gems and bangers. And it goes on back to back. For the last five years. Bruh, I no know which talisman those guys dey use. And they're darn good at promotion in Awards season. Their films can easily take down anybody to the point that big studio films are now underdogs compared to NEON in Best Picture/International category.

At the bolded....I really h@ted that shïte... waiting months and months into the following year's end of Q1 to actually finally see the awards hopefuls. Pretty surprising for films that would never do much at the Box office.
This killed my hype for The Seed of The Sacred Fig. The way I was pretty hyped for that film, I waited aeons to see it, I was even wondering how you dropped the review back then. Did you know that it was like about 3 months ago I finally stumbled upon the film— a long time after solid interest has cooled down already. Downloaded the film since then but little ginger to see it. Probably, after seeing this film I'd be more inclined to see it soon.

It's my favourite scene too. Hamid was the smartest of them all. At times using your head is always better than using the heart.
