Igbo Feminists Online Should Stop Generalising Nigerian Women. by motymop(op): 11:13am On Dec 24, 2025
Certain feminist narratives you see in Nigeria are driven by igbo regional customs, these local injustices are then amplified online and presented as a universal Nigerian female experience, which is misleading.

see, Nigeria is not one culture. In many parts of the south east, customary laws prevent women even first daughters from inheriting family property while in many other areas outside the south east, women do inherit. So when these feminists from the south east frames all Nigerian women as uniformly oppressed, that’s inaccurate. What we’re seeing is using local cultural injustice being generalized into a national narrative.

They should be honest enough to criticize specific customs without pretending the entire country operates the same way.

Is inheritance the problem of Nigeria women?
Igbo women are the most favoured amongst Nigeria women they are educated and enjoy unlimited freedom to attain the highest possible positions in life.

Christmas eve- men are running around to make tomorrow a great day and simps are preoccupied with Igbo women.

Interact with Yoruba women, and you'll often sense deep frustration toward men—stemming from the fallout of poorly socialized "Yoruba demons" who've left emotional scars. This dynamic is amplified by aspects of Yoruba culture that prioritize individual pursuits over family preservation and stability.

fair point but there are lot of instances where they generalise and assume that because a woman in the south east is experiencing something due to customary laws in the south east that means all women in nigeria suffer from the same fate.

You mean the same way Ogun rituals killing epidemic is being globally passed off as a general Nigerian problem, instead of being rightly articulated as a Yoruba/South West cultural thaw!huh
Are we on the same page?

South East women are not "suffering"!
The idea that they "suffer" in a country where they're comparatively doing great in every field, is nothing but a figment of your dubious imaginations.
South East women are the most educated in the country. A culture that "suffers" her women will never allow this to happen. If you doubt me, go to the North. You have fathers sending their daughters overseas for greater education, but your worry is how we share 'ummunna land'?
South East women are generally doing good! What with Ngozi Iweala, Chimanda, Otteh, Obiekwesili, and millions of others bringing accolades to a Nigeria that doesn't deserve it.

You Bayo Onanuga data boys seem to have a thing for igbo women. Maybe it's about time igbo men starts taking note/care.
Trying desperately to amplify non existent cultural dichotomy between igbo males and their females in a Nigeria where some cultures marry off their females at 7 years, shows an intent to not just ridicule the igbos, but to also inject a rebellious spirit within their females. Luckily, Igboland is culturally prepared for this deliberate campaign of calumny, and will maintain her egalitarian cultural practices irrespective of the opinion held by some prehistoric mutants!

The Igbo feminists should stop misrepresenting Nigeria as a country. They should also stop taking regional issues to online space.

We have been waiting for them to come up with solutions to the issues they have been raising for years now but all we have been getting is just complains after complains

Igbos in general are very emotional, that's a fact
They act with impulse before getting the whole fact of a situation They already form an opinion

That's why People don't take them serious

Exactly. I always find it funny when they try to generalize their local customs as something everyone else is experiencing.

How can you have a group called \"Nigerian Women\" and 90% of the members are from one ethnic group?

Yet Igbo women who become widows are still being made to drink the water that was used to washed the dead bodies of their late husband

A woman Orompoto has been Alaafin of Oyo .
Luwo a woman was also Ooni of Ife.

Queen Pupupu founded the Ondo Kingdom
And Erelu Kuti ruled Lagos

Madam Tinubu was another powerful Yoruba woman who owned 4 sq miles of Central Lagos

Our History and Culture is entirely different so don't rope in Yoruba women into your feminist Campaign

instead of them to agree and find a way to end the barbaric nature. so many are passing through the ugly situation but kept quiet because of fear but that lady was bold to cry out. one fool above was mentioning about five igbo succesfull women but forgot they are just less than a percent of other unseccessful ones. most igbo ladies their husband married from the village and bring to Lagos are normally local people but get exposed as times goes up and that is why thier husbands always control them like remote control. Igbos practice the worst culture. same in igboland, some are referred to OSU even within same state.
