Ofcourse you approve of corruption. If not you will know that Sealing the leaks in a bucket is more important than pouring more water into the buckets.

Until the leaks are sealed , raising more money by sqeezing it out of the already impoverished masses won't change a thing.

Everyone in the country is already paying tax in one form or the other, even when they are getting less than expected from the government. and not paying more tax isn't corruption.
The real corruption is embezzling and not being accountable for what has be pooled together from our natural resources and the taxes being collected.
Yes we seal the leaks, but that leaves us with

1. The fact that dwindling oil revenues, means that expected income from oil is gonna keep falling, as oil prices are projected to fall (unless the US bombs Iranian oil refineries this comming year...lol)

2. Also, the fact that the above would result in more borrowing

3.Our budget is 55 trillion or less than 40 billion dollars...for a nation of 230 million people. That is scanty. If you think it is not scanty, I have a bridge to sell you

4. Finally, our lenders are becoming more reluctant to borrow us money

All these means more and more tax, or things like salaries won't be paid.

Seal the leaks first. Leave all the other stories.
Stop putting the cart before the horse.

It will surprise you that if the country is devoid of corruption we may not even need to borrow a dime.

Failure to seal the leaks first makes everything you do irrelevant. You will see absolutely no difference or changes.

That means you want your government to borrow and keep borrowing. Simple and short, and don't argue.

The only reason why ur govermnt is borrowing is that they are unaccountable for what is being generated in the country and what has been borrowed in the past.
This is simple common sense. I don't understand why you don't just get it. It's either u are paid to not understand or u just chose to be ignorant.

Note, even if the country generates more from tax, it won't stop the borrowings. Why?
Cus most of the money still end up getting looted. The country is being sank into unending debts by the excesses of the ruling class and all u can think of is how to make life more miserable for the already struggling lower class. It is well with u.

Even when fuel subsidy, forex subsidy was on full swing , you deny benefitting from it. Right now public education, electricity, healthcare, infrastructure etc are still heavily subsidized. The day Govt decide to remove the subsidy and ask citizens to pay for the actual cost, that is when the noise will go up. Very few are currently paying tax, Govt wanted to widen the tax net , just so they can improve on our infrastructure, the noise is deafening , especially from those who are not paying and will still not be required to pay by law.
Oga keep quiet jor

The subsidy on health, electricity. Is it from their pockets?

What have you benefited as a citizen of Nigeria.

I spent over 33 years of my life in that sh1thole with nothing tangible from the government.

You need to provide service to the people, then tax them. Not the other way around.

Widen up tax net on hungry ppl.

Thats sickening.

The point of your argument is...whatever sane decision taken they will loot.

The argument is flawed because if all our politicans did nothing but loot...that means that salaries won't be paid and there won't have been any projects for years.

Your use of corruption corruption is because you know I am right, and you have no answer, so you hide behind corruption.

The corruption of what you speak is fuelled by the fact that most of our government income DOES NOT COME FROM TAX. As a result, accountablilty is reduced. If most of the income CAME FROM TAX, people would be incentivised to hold politicans accountable. Looting won't dissapear, but it would reduce, and if it doesn't there would be a true people's revoluton (which is why I support the tax....I don't want to give any politcian free money, I want people to take their role in governance serious).

But if you don't wan tax, you are in essence saying government should borrow. Simple and short. And our borrowing happens because too few nigerians pay tax and because oil revenue does not favor us because oil prices are way below where we need them. IN ADDITION TO PETTY CORRUPTION...before you start saying I support corruptopn

But you are not arguing for improvement in our income, you are using me as a representative of the political class which you hate, because your own side of the political class is not in power (Don't deny it). That means you are misunderstanding my purpose for speaking. I don;t care about any party or government, but I care when we take sane decisions...regardless of the government. You just want to chop money.

Not so fast.

Its a two way street.

Increasing taxes without public sector/institutional reform is a waste of time. The money will disappear and there will be nothing, absolutely nothing to show for it.

Even a child knows that this tax revenue that Oyedele and his master are eyeing will be wasted on more Land Cruisers, Cadillac limousines, presidential aircraft and presidential yachts. Any little bit left over will go towards renovation of vice presidential palaces. undecided

There is nothing, absolutely nothing to suggest that this administration is acting in good faith. Why don't BAT and Oyedele publicly declare their tax returns as a show of good faith for all Nigerians to see? Isn't that true leadership - leadership by example?
Thank you.

This is one thing I have always stated. Those who want to force this dubious tax law are people who refuse to be subject to the very laws they make.

Like I said, I don't care who is in power, I care if the government of the day makes sane decisions. If they don't I blast them

Like I said, you are using me as a punching bag for a party and government I do not support. If your side was in power, you would be prasing me if they made the same decision

Your side and the tinubu side are not interested in Nigeria growing, you just want them to share the money

He told you what to do, what is necessary FIRST.

The only reason a vulcaniser will pump a tyre first is to identify where the leaks are before repairing them and sending you on your merry way.

Will he just pump it up and tell you, 'oga if e go down again make you bring am, my pump dey here kampe', without plugging the leaks.

That is why all the pumping of subsidy savings, crazy loans and recovered loot has not raised the economic tyre one inch. Is it kobo, kobo taxes from the hapless citizens that will balance your bloated budgets...abegi.

You will not rest, sir?

What have they done with the money from the ten million individual taxpayers ? Everyone is a taxpayer...when you consume you pay a value added tax. In Nigeria, when you transfer money, you pay a tax and everyone transfers money. When the taxi man or delivery bike is accosted on the road by LG people, they pay a tax. The market sellers pays a tax to their iyaloja so dear sir...

Sha start collecting your tax and let us see what you people will do with it and what excuses you will have for not delivering on public services that benefit the citizens

We have a serious accountability problem in this country.

Even as a kid going interstate to school I used to see drivers pay N50, N100 naira at motorpark gates and even back then I used to wonder what the money was used for. Five years in school, many, many trips through the parks and yet the same dusty red dirt in the dry and red muddy water in the rain. No restrooms, no baggage lock up, nothing. For years and millions collected. No one asking any questions yet they faithfully pay or are coerced to.

This is the story of Nigeria.

Yet so much frenzy from everywhere.
If you look at it well, our taxation laws are favourable. Let's bring more people in so we can generate more and prevent excessive borrowing.

It won't stop borrowing, sonny, but it would reduce it by far and it would also enable us to raise our tax to gdp ration.

Reduced borrowing means reduced amount spent on debt service.

That's impressive!

10 million active payers? Considering that the country provides no social services, such people should be lauded for their selfless services.

If the much hyped subsidy removal didn't provide any succour to Nigerians, this taxation will also end up as a fundraiser for looters. The Malamis and Mainas will do justice to the fund.

Low tax is not the issue, it is the looting. Yesterday , we read how Federal mortgage bank pays out billions of Naira upfront for an estate without a single building. You read about Emiefele the ex CBN boss owing 750 buildings. Today is Malami looting 200 billions. All of them are like that. How do we stop the looting. This is the main issue.
