People in transportation business make money. Local transport like okada and keke. The problem is usually poor prior knowledge, followed by womanising and alcohol.

I remember my days riding Bolt. You’d see ₦100,000 on the Bolt dashboard and think you’ve made money, but when you check the actual cash in your hand, it’s barely ₦20,000–₦30,000.

Why? Because reality hits hard. Bolt takes its commission first. Fuel collects its own share. Car maintenance is constant oil, tyres, repairs. Then there’s police “settlement”, unexpected road issues, and even the food you eat just to survive the day.

By the time all these expenses are deducted, the big figure on the dashboard is just an illusion.

This is exactly why keke (tricycle) driving in Nigeria is often not as profitable as it looks from the outside.

People see daily cash flow and assume drivers are making serious money, but they don’t see the hidden costs. Daily levies to unions, local government tickets, police harassment, frequent breakdowns, rising fuel prices, and personal upkeep all eat deep into earnings.
At the end of the day, what looks like good turnover is not the same as real profit.

Many keke drivers are just circulating money, working long hours, taking health risks, and still struggling to save or grow.

The hustle keeps you busy, but financially, it barely moves you forward.

That's why I am trying to find out here..... I've seen tons of them who make similar claims but their lives shows otherwise.

I am telling you what I know so well,80% of riders are on installment and that’s where the problem is.you have to make up your target before by all means so it’s as if they are just working for someone else.the same thing with most uber drivers too,if the owner is the rider too laziness mostly sets in cos you are not under any obligation but I can’t tell u authoritatively that they don’t make less than 30k if they work normal day routine and after paying all expenses unless when the keke has fault.it also depend on route too anyway.

If what you say is true.....it should take any serious person at least 1-2yrs to complete the payment and take full charge of it....but it takes them ages (almost all of them).

You see in most professions that earn such amounts you'll get above 60% of those in that profession living a life worth the said amount but why is it always different when it comes to this specific profession we are talking about..... Perhaps my thinking of all this being over hyped is justified after all.

What are you saying is the main reason?..... Laziness,other factors that are overlooked or what.....I really want to know because this thing is hard to believe from where I stand and also Indicate if you have first hand experience/information of anything you've told me and/or will tell me going forward.

I told you that it depends on location too,maybe I’m judging by my experience in my own locality which is Alimosho.also consider that majority of people in the field are either uneducated or mostly have responsibility that is overstretched like having about 3 or more children and still have to pay installments .mostimes they go into contribution daily and when they get their contributions,it goes back into paying school fees,house rents and other expenses and the circle continues.
All I know is that they make up to the amount in my area,how they spend it is what I don’t know.
If you buy the keke by yourself and you ride it without paying delivery or installments to anyone which is about 50k weekly you could be saving up to an average of 300k or more on monthly basis

So being uneducated is one of the major reasons from ur own end?........ They're some educated one's as well but all I see is at least they pay their bills to some extent....they don't live the best of life and neither do they grow like others who had opportunities to control such amount of money monthly.....you know the average a normal Nigerian earns a months yet a lot have set of businesses and live in better houses than all these transport guys.

so out of all I said,it is only education that you can single out as a factor?,so to tell me that an average police officer despite his salary,majority of them still take unspecified amount of money home on a daily basis from or by which ever means that you and I know but if you look at majority of them you don’t see anything to show for him,does that mean that many of them are not doing well

Nah....I see it in a lot of them....they build houses, the rent decent apartments and some take their kids to very expensive schools.

I keep on wondering why I've hardly seen signs of such monies in the transport workers and yet I've seen a lot that have quoted their earnings being around the figure you quoted.
