How exactly do they want us to reject it.

What is the strategy.

There is a line in the gazette that says they can automatically deduct tax, which you can dispute later. But they can deduct from your money in the bank.

I thinks it's February that it would really start because many people can still fly under 800k radar in Jan.
So we have to wait until then? Until some money is deducted? Then we stop using banks? Sue them? Or go out on the road and block everywhere?

10million is not even such a big contract.
Loosing 2.5m out of it to thin air is going to be very bad.

They don pass it into law already now.
Na only Cho cho cho promise of protest Nigerians dey make.

so i should reject a tax law that says, people will pay 0 income tax, if they earn less than 800k

when in the old tax law, people earning less than 800k are paying 15% as tax
Which people are paying the 800k 15% tax? The market women on the street?

I thought we will be concerned about the questions I raised up there. Or are you not also in Nigeria? If yoi aren't in Nigeria, you won't understand how to answer to questions or how they affect you ..so, you might be for this New Tax law.

Tax is the law. We have all been paying one tax or the other .

Reject the new Tax law entirely! In a country where the government provides almost nothing for its citizens deserves no tax from the citizens.
Security . Police aren't trusted
Health care.
Electricity.
Good roads
Social amenities

Is it Somone whose Dad was kidnapped and paid 20m for ransom without the security operatives helping would want to pay the new tax?

Someone whose son died in the hospital because Nepa took light or because the General Hospitals were short staff, is it that person that would want to pay this Tax?

Or is it car owners who fix their cars regularly due to bad road that would want to pay?

Water cooperation almost doesn't exist again. We drill our boreholes and get water ourselves.

Cost of living is over the roof!

We need to ask ourselves these questions:
What are the government doing with the taxes they have been collecting?

What are they doing with the money gotten from subsidy removal?

We keep hearing Politicians looting money in Billion dollars and nothing is being done. Are these the people I will till and turn the soil for ? So that they can loot the money

We don't need any new tax law. When Nigeria works the way it should, we will gladly pay the tax without force.

Have you ever paid tax before?
If you are educated....you would know that the govt is subsidizing electricity , education and even healthcare.

NLC as having fallen into a predictable pattern of endless meetings and negotiations that becomes repetitive rituals without positive outcomes, trust is eroded, and the legitimacy of the participating organization is called into question.

If it was Obi passing the law, the people now cursing it would be saying he is a leader that knows how to take tough decisions, while tinubu supporters would be saying that he is an evil person, and nigerians should reject the law.

It's this kind of mindset , plus the idea that economic development can only come from selling oil and sharing the money without corruption, that makes it hard to even have a sane discussion of the benefits of the tax (including the fact that it would reduce corruption because now if a leader steals money when most are paying tax, it would be like he or she is stealing from your pocket..and that means bad news for that leader). As a result, people are in essence arguing that tinubu should keep on borrowing (which he would gladly do...infact the economic policy is basically 'make Nigeria credit worthy for more loans' which ironically the new borrowing law would make possible)..and thus more debt.

I hear people shouting that the security is bad. Well, we spend 5 billion dollars yearly to keep 230 million people safe. Police and millitary salaries are as a result scanty, and there isn't enough money for equipment and other stuff. Yet we don't want to accept tax solutions because ...we want the kidnappers to keep on kidnapping us. Apparently.

One thing I have noticed from being on this site for over ten years, and sometimes deleting akant and coming back...lol. ..is that Nigerians are very economically illiterate, and only speak in defence of sane economic polices if their man is in power. When their man is not in power, they suddenly remember that the policy is oppressive. It all amounts to the fact that we run patronage politics here...where people think that if their man is in power....they would benefit from cash. So, he must be defended even when there is obvious corruption...that is why we have the funny thing of Tinubu supporters opposing subsidy removal in 2012, and then supporting it in 2023...what changed was who was in charge.

The problem is, opposing this tax law means you support bad government and more borrowing. Because both of these things benefit 90% OF THE People on this site.

Anyway, continue. I am even getting cynical about the average Nigerian.

I do not hope to cross path with your likes. I have no insulted anyone with my post. I did only ask questions . If you can't provide answers to the questions, you needn't reply.
You are asking if I have ever paid tax. That's funny . As an employee or as a business owner . Which? Because, both applies to me .
So, the government subsiding electricity, education and Healthcare means that it shouldn't work well?

Ghana has better power supply than Nigeria.
Education. Isn't even up to par.
Healthcare? Please don't go there. Even the doctors are leaving Nigeria en mass.

So, tell me what exactly one is enjoying in Nigeria to be happy to pay this tax. I should be paying the huge tax so that politicians can be living fat on it right?

Money from fuel subsidy removal, where is it going to?

My earlier post, you didn't answer my questions.

Come to think of it, minimum wage is 70,000 x 12 = 840,000 , which is taxable. So who are the people exempted when minimum wage earners are taxed. Deceit and propaganda government as usual.

All the billions of dollars been looted . Where are they? You are saying this as if Nigeria isnt rich enough to get thing right without taxing the citizens heavily. All monies stolen every now and then , where are they?
The people stealing the money, the money recovered, is the government doing much to fight corruption? Are they still stealing Billions? Every week, there is always a corruption story on the news.

These monies stollen is more than enough to sustain Nigeria. Ordinary Local government are embezzling money . Yet you are asking us to pay the tax to enrich us .

All the IGRs are being mismanaged and you will want us to pay more?

Nobody is against taxes. Fix the country first! The people will be glad to pay this tax.

One thing is certain about this tax Law. If those self serving senators and useless house of rep members that have not done anything beneficial to the masses are all of a sudden against this then it is good for an average Nigerian that is not a gut wrenching greedy pathological liar like them. Nigerians need to stay sharp ! ..🤔

Nigeria is a funny country.

The country has 300 billion in circulation but generates $20 billion in taxes and has a budget of $30 billion for 230 million people. Yet, they want health care, electricity, good roads and social amenities. How is the government going to fund those amenities on a $30 million budget?

The NBA, NLC, Atiku and P Obi haven't provided concrete evidence that the Tax Reform that was signed into law in JUNE 2025 have been altered; instead, we have political interest groups intent on sabotaging the future of the country.

The NLC, which has no credibility as an organisation that tried to sabotage Dangote refinery, is now the arbiter of truth and honesty.

Head cut is not an antidote to headache, they can demand for probe and corrections where the amendment is needed, sanctions for those responsible after thorough investigation, but to throw away the Tax Law I know they are lying to themselves.
They should know they are not a political party, and stop acting like one

Who want pay make e pay.

Knowing Nigerians, one day the government will tell them that their wives belong to the politicians and they will agree. No push back. No civil disobedience. Just bend over and take it, then start wailing after the irreparable damage is done.

you obviouly dont understand the tax law.

before minimum wage was 70k, in the old tax law, you pay 15% of the 840k

in the new tax law. if your yearly pay is 840k, you pay tax on only 40k

so what are you talking about

so me that work, i should be paying tax for all the market women also working.

they also collect vat from me like the market woman but the market woman do not pay tax on her own income but me that work is paying tax on my income

so it is fair that because she is a market woman she shouldnt pay any tax while i should pay tax for her

abeg let everyone pay their oown share.

30 billion taxes generated. Is it from there Yahaya Bello and the likes are stealing from ?

@ Bolded

Heavy taxation without services is unfair
Most Nigerians already struggle with:
Poor electricity
Bad roads
Inadequate healthcare
High inflation and unemployment
Asking people to pay significantly more without visible benefits:
Deepens poverty
Increases informal economic activity
Encourages tax evasion
Fuels public anger and distrust
Taxation only works when citizens believe “I get value for my money.”
