The joint mapping project is a major shift in the "War on Terror," moving from reactive ground combat to predictive intelligence.
As of late December 2025, Nigeria and the United States have officially activated a high-level operational agreement to map all terrorist enclaves across the country, particularly focusing on the "ungoverned spaces" of the Northwest and Northeast.

1. The Technology: "Eyes in the Forest"
The project utilizes a "layered architecture" of surveillance that the bandits can no longer evade by simply moving deeper into the woods:

* SAR Satellite Imagery: The U.S. is providing access to Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR). Unlike normal cameras, SAR can "see" through thick forest canopies and cloud cover, and it works at night. This allows the military to see permanent bandit camps in the Sububu and Sambisa forests that were previously hidden.

* Geospatial Intelligence Fusion: Data from these satellites is being fed directly into the Defence Space Administration (DSA) in Abuja. The DSA has recently produced over 640 new topographic maps of areas that were previously "blind spots" for ground troops.
* Heat Signature Tracking: The mapping includes infrared sensors that track large clusters of "unnatural heat"—likely indicating bandit campfires, motorcycle clusters, or hidden fuel dumps.

2. Identifying the "Red Zones"
The mapping project has categorized specific areas as high-priority "Red Zones" for immediate military intervention:

* The Lakurawa Corridor: New maps have identified the movement patterns of the Lakurawa (a new terror group in Sokoto/Kebbi). The mapping shows they are moving through at least nine areas across three local governments near the Niger Republic border.

* The "Triple Border" Point: High-resolution mapping has focused on the intersection of Zamfara, Katsina, and Kaduna states, where Bello Turji and other kingpins frequently shuffle captives to avoid detection.

3. Impact on Operations (The "Why" Behind the Wins)
This mapping is the reason for the "gains in the last two weeks" you asked about:

* Precision Strike Capability: Instead of carpet-bombing forests, the Air Force now has "grid coordinates" for specific huts and ammunition pits.

* Cutting Logistics: By mapping the secret footpaths and "rat routes" used by suppliers, the military has been able to set up ambushes, leading to the recent seizure of millions in cash and fuel intended for Turji’s camp.

* Real-Time Monitoring: The military can now monitor a camp in real-time. If they see a group of motorcycles leaving a mapped enclave, they can deploy attack helicopters (like the T129s) to intercept them before they reach a target village.

4. Strategic Collaboration
The U.S. Department of State and the Nigerian Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) are co-leading this through a Joint Intelligence Fusion Center. This isn't just about sharing photos; it's about building a digital "twin" of the Nigerian terrain to predict where terrorists will go next based on water sources and historical movement.

> Impact Note: This "total visibility" is what is terrifying the bandit leaders. In a recent viral video, Turji complained about being "betrayed," but security experts believe he is actually reacting to the fact that his "invisible" hideouts are now clearly marked on a digital map in Abuja.

Bandits locations can now be identified even inside the ground .... bad time for bandits...

Yes. And it is no big deal. They did same with Jordan just 2-3 days ago. .

Only unfortunate unpatriotic elements doubt that such operations are held jointly.

I first read it on a foreign media that it was at the permission of Nigeria.

The US apparently want to keep the military assets used for the particular operation under their own control just like when they bombed Iran on behalf of their proxy in the middle east.

Forget Trump hyping as usual, it's more symbolic than any significant military success. Nigeria is too large and the cost of such operations will be too expensive for US to sustain.

Nothing really significant. Just to bomb small parts of a forest in Sokoto when there are multiple forests in Sokoto and thousands of forests in just NW geopolitical zone in Nigeria.

The most important task will be undertaken by our armed forces who combine all the intelligence along with internal policing. We must support our armed forces . They are more effective than failed US bombings in Gaza and Afghanistan.

To fly one or two aeroplane and drop bomb is the easy part. Ground operation with boots on the ground is where the big deal is and US cannot do that because their soldiers will get killed.
