How Do I Fix A Blocked Toilet That Keeps Overflowing Even After Plunging? by kasiramji06(op): 10:20pm On Dec 17, 2025
So I’m dealing with a bathroom nightmare over here. My toilet’s been acting up for two days straight, and no matter how many times I plunge it, the thing just keeps rising like it’s trying to escape the bowl. I’ve never seen anything like it. I live in an older apartment, so I’m worried it might be something deeper in the pipes, but I really don’t wanna call the landlord unless I absolutely have to. Anyone been through this before? Any tricks I haven’t tried yet? I’m seriously running out of towels and patience.

I once cleared a stubborn clog by pouring hot water from waist height, then using a toilet auger. If water still rises, it could be a main drain issue.

The problem is actually not from the toilet. What you are experiencing is a symptom from a problem further down the drainage systems. Either your waste pipe is clogged and needs to be cleared or the soak away is now filled up. You need a pro plumber to come and check and resolve it for you.

either the septic tank is full or the pipes are blocked - which can happen if someone flushing sanitary pad down the toilet. can also happen if people flush condoms or wet wipes.

whatever it is - you need a plumber to clear your pipes

i’m a bit late here, but one thing that has worked for me is pouring very hot (not boiling) water into the bowl and letting it sit for a few minutes before trying a plunger again. If that fails, I usually switch to a drain snake because it reaches deeper than a plunger can. Did anyone here ever have success with dish soap plus hot water?
would not recommend because the pipes may not be designed for hot water
Re: How Do I Fix A Blocked Toilet That Keeps Overflowing Even After Plunging? by CrownOfClay724: 5:53pm On Dec 26, 2025
Two possibilities:

— There is a blockage in the pipe run.
— and the septic tank might be filled up.

Quick way to know how to proceed.
Check any other toilet in the house and flush five times.
(Preferably, go for the one that is closest to the septic tank)
If it's not backing up, then it means the issue might not be the septic tank.

Open the chamber or access point that is closest to the toilet and check for blockages.
You might find rags, pads , clothes and a lot of unthinkables people expect to magically vanish when they flush.
Clear them out or get a plumber as quickly as you can.

This is not clear. Is it your bathroom drainage you are describing or your WC bowl.

If it's WC, 80% likely your soakaway is full or 30% your small chamber at the back of your toilet is blocked.

If it's bathroom floor drainage, get a plumber. Some times plague build up on the internal of it especially if you are on the ground floor

Re: How Do I Fix A Blocked Toilet That Keeps Overflowing Even After Plunging? by handsomeyinka(m):
Just get a K50 machine or 1500 machine to snake the toilet..

U can rent a snake from a rental tool outlet.
Do know where u reside..
But home depot rent tools ..
Toilet needs to be removed with an adjustable wrench 🔧..
You will also need to replace the wax ring after snaking it.
Peace out.

Let a plumber help you to open your inspection chamber first, it may be pad blockage. If it finds out it is not, let him open the septic tank to see whether it is full or not. If the septic tank is in a water logged area then you have a big problem at hand but if it is just the normal water, you have to evacuate it through the agents in charge of that

Check the chamber linked to the toilet.
I once had experience whereby ants made an anthill in the chamber that gradually make the toilet 🚽 clogged.

We opened it and found the ants there Still building 😂😂.

Had to break it and flush with water then replaced back the cover with cement.

Do you have a wife if you do, naa your wife they throw pad their. I remembered when I work for a lecture, who always called me every month to come and help free his blocking pipe, me and my guys will remove new new pad from the pipe, I will show mummy what we removed, just to let her know she's the one causing it, I won't tell the husband though. A month latter when he called me for it again, I billed him times two of the money I used to collect, he started abusing me that I don't know my job, that his wife have said it they should called someone else. I became very annoyed, I told him is it not your uselesss wife (yes I'm not supposed to call her that), the thing dey vex me, and I dey cover for her before, now she's the one saying I no Sabi my job. He called me stupid and every name he can, I didn't answered him again. I dropped the call. The matter almost spoil their marriage, oga said before he came back from work tomorrow if she didn't take care of it, he doesn't know what else can happened. She called another plumber for it and paid herself. We latter became friends, I apologize to them, and I work on other plumbing work for them and not pipe blockage. Some wemen heen, they can send you go back to village.

Do you have kids at home? Are you sure your wife/gf has not flushed pampers inside?

Are you owing your landlord rents? Check with him if he has not blocked off your toilet pipe?

Lastly, get a plumber to look at it. DIY doesn't work sometimes. Let the professionals handle it.

I want to ask.
When should one empty or suck out his/her soak-away so as to avoid such issues like this! Like how often should one do this?

How do one normally reach those agents/workers who evacuate soak-aways!
Do they have offices?

It depends on how deep the soak away is. If you're the owner of the house and you supervised it yourself during construction, you should know that but if not, the best way is to look for plumber to open that little space on it and dip a stick or pipe into it to know if it's full or not
