U.S. Strike Endorsement: Bayo, Isn't Nigeria's Sovereignty Being Undermined? by Bobloco(op): 4:46am On Dec 26, 2025
Last month, Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu, slammed Peter Obi for allegedly supporting foreign intervention in Nigeria, saying, “We shall never forget and forgive Peter Obi for supporting a foreign invasion.” This came after Obi stated he would welcome U.S. military intervention if it helped Nigeria's security. Onanuga condemned Obi for undermining Nigeria’s sovereignty.

Today, the Tinubu administration, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, supported U.S. airstrikes targeting terrorist locations in Nigeria’s northwest. This raises a glaring contradiction: while Onanuga condemned Obi’s hypothetical welcome of foreign intervention, Tinubu's government endorsed actual foreign military action.

So, where does Nigeria’s sovereignty stand? If the government can support foreign strikes in one instance, how can they condemn Obi for even discussing foreign intervention? It seems sovereignty is only a priority when politically convenient.

This double standard, do as I say, not as I do is a familiar political game, but it’s more troubling when those in power are the ones playing it. The real question here isn’t about Obi’s extreme comment; it's about the consistency of the government’s stance on foreign intervention. Is sovereignty truly non-negotiable, or just a political tool when it suits the administration’s interests?

If Tinubu’s government condemns Obi’s comments, they must explain why they welcome foreign involvement when it aligns with their agenda. Sovereignty, it seems, isn’t as black and white as they want us to believe.

The Terrorists and Bandits from elsewhere already undermined Nigeria’s sovereignty and security

We see how the US destroyed Libya and we don’t want US bombing Nigeria

It would be better if FG got the UK to help us to do what US is doing

Trump is very greedy and May be eyeing Nigeria’s Mineral resources

By whom? The terrorists or the USA? Are you are terrorists or terrorists sympathizer?
So when USA supported Israel, Israel lost their sovereignty right?
Define Sovereignty Oga. Let's start from whether or not you know the meaning in the first place.

You go explain tire

Listen, sovereignty isn’t about who is bombed; it’s about who authorizes foreign force on Nigerian soil.

Onanuga called Obi unforgivable for talking about foreign help, yet the same government now supports actual U.S. airstrikes in Nigeria.

You can’t condemn a statement and endorse the action without explaining the difference , that’s hypocrisy.

And the Israel comparison fails flat bro, Israel doesn’t call opposition voices 'traitors' for acknowledging security alliances.

So yes, sovereignty isn’t juju, but neither is accountability. If foreign military involvement is acceptable when Tinubu approves it, then stop pretending it’s treason when someone else discusses it.

Define sovereignty all you want, just apply it evenly, not politically.

Hypocrisy is when you support the action of Nigeria government but condemn Peter Obi over his statement and opinion.

Why must you people from the SE always do this? We are past the stage of this your gaslighting you lot predictably come up with every time good happens to the "Zoo".

Many, myself included along with loads of Non-Nigerians and Non-Africans even, insisted on the sovereignty of Nigeria when Trump threatened to attack us dictatorially, against the specific position of international law.

We have since moved on from that with the USA towing the path of diplomacy and sense to respect our sovereignty and then settle on working with Nigeria. That is what gave birth to what is sewn below. If you are then not an enemy of Nigeria's progress, then what purpose exactly is this thread meant to serve?
In your little mind, the Nigerian government was aware that the US will strike on Christmas Day?

Keep playing.

When it's unauthorized, it's an invasion.
When it's authorised, it's not an invasion.

Nigeria authorised US actions.
