On December 25, 2025, the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Ikorodu, Lagos State, brought festive cheer to local residents by distributing sachets of garri (a popular Nigerian cassava staple) as part of their Christmas and New Year goodwill gesture.

Led by NURTW officials, the initiative saw long queues of community members receiving the palliatives amid Nigeria's ongoing economic challenges.

While some praised the effort as a timely relief, others online debated its sufficiency and political motivations, sparking widespread discussions on holiday aid, poverty, and patronage.

Exactly the point I was trying to air but people who are close minded won't rationalize it from an unsentimental perspective.
Let's be sincere with ourselves, garri is actually a food commodity that is literally consumed by every household in Nigeria.
I even ate garri two days ago so giving it out in his capacity is sheer benevolence from me.

Oh boy!

As I type this, I'm still sweating from the hot eba I just finished eating.
Swallow is my favorite food.

There's a lot to eat this festive season but my choice is the hot eba with hot draw soup I made yesterday with a sprinkle of bitter leaf taste. Then I carried some fried meat from the stew to give it that yummy tomato sauce taste. I ate and ate and ate!
That's my grave this morning.

But you see this here, a whole NURTW distributing 2 cups of garri as Xmas gift to humans is nothing but wickedness in high places! It's opprobrious! It's repugnant and a big insult to the recipients!

U are missing the main point here which is the fact that people are still jostling for the supposed two cup of Garri.
Nigerians lyk we all know are greedy bunch of people so that was basically the reason why he adopted the use of ticket for the Garri collection.
There is a serious wave of poverty pandemic in the country and we need to draft out intelligible measure to curb it effectively.
