kunle4toyeyaho:The gains of this autonomy can only be achieved if there are mechanisms that ensure transparency and accountability. |

[quote author=Zouze However, under what law or constitutional provision would Tinubu issue an executive order compelling state governors to make direct remittance of LGs? You don't issue executive orders without an enabling law empowering same. You see, it's all talk right now. The only way out is constitutional amendment. The joint account created under S162(5) needs to be deleted. The Supreme Court judgement contained mere declarations.[/quote]You are wrong. There is no need for a Constitutional amendment before the Supreme Court's position can be enforced. The Supreme Court's position IS THE NEW LAW on the matter, and so, the President is required by the constitution to enforce the law, whether by Executive Order or otherwise. The same Supreme Court you claimed only made a declaration has recently remonstrated and stated its displeasure at the lack of enforcement. DO YOU KNOW MORE THAN THE SUPREME COURT. Whether or not you or I think any part of the Constitution needs to be amended is irrelevant. If the Supreme Court has compelled the Federal government to do something, nobody, not even the President can resist on the ground that the constitution says this or that. If the constitution says 1 + 1 is 2, but the Supreme Court determines that the answer is 3, then the correct answer for the time being is 3. Only the national assembly can pass a new law or amend the constitution to counter the Supreme courts position and until it does, the answer is 3 irrespective of what any professor of .mathematics thinks. The Supreme Court is very powerful. |

I personally don't believe the "Eleyi" can openly defy the President and Supreme Court! I think it's more of stupidity or perhaps at attempt to steal some bucks under the guise of purchasing those cars than defiance. Eleyi wouldn't want to dig his own grave! |

I have mentioned that we don't need state governments. They are the major problem of Nigeria, let them be scrapped. |

The first step to address this LG issue is to make a law that mandates INEC to be the official electoral body for LG elections. Until then, we’ll keep running in circles. These governors will never conduct a free and fair LG elections if the state electoral bodies are allowed to continue. |

OK..... If LG can't submit individual accounts, then, they are weaklings. |

Not only abiodun All governors don't want local government autonomy, and it's because all chairmen were put there by governors ...... Let elections of local government be on same day as governors and be conducted by inec But tinubu will not do that, he will only be putting the cart before the horse |

Zocalite:you Tinubu ' haters', you are just too M+U+M+U to know Nigeria is made up of36 federating units and Governors as the heads of the units. Don't youknow financial autonomy is a step in the right direction?Buhari couldn't get it and Tinubu succeeded in getting it. Any LG chairman that remits his monthly allocation back to the state Governor would definitely be a guest at EFCC office. |

Zocalite:.... Just as your life and your family's would be a direct version of how your candidate governed his State as a Governor . Can I hear a resounding Amen? |

SEGLIZ:You can't see their yet, because all the governors haven't supported LG autonomy. They're still the ones controlling LG allocations. They refused to let LGs open their separate accounts till now. your hate for tinubu isn't my business so please everybody with him wahala, if unna see tinubu supporters na headache for next na insult. I support Obi all the way, that don't mean I shouldn't have a clear mind and varying opinion. I'm never blind folded by my grudge. The same reactions I always received whenever I criticised Tinubu's policies ![]() |

bestofnollywood:This local government autonomy thing was done to fight opposition. It will only be implemented in opposition states, hence governors are defecting. I was surprised to hear tinubu telling apv governors to give lga their monies, i used to believe they had already started collecting from fg direct |
