“Assassins, Arsonists, and Organ Traffickers Became ‘Fighters for Biafran Liberation” —Joe Igbokwe

Joe Igbokwe has sharply criticized Nnamdi Kanu and the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), asserting that the movement blurred the line between crime and political activism. In a Facebook post that has generated significant attention, Igbokwe wrote, “Political assassins, arsonists, and organ traffickers became ‘fighters for Biafran liberation,’” framing this as a dangerous distortion of morality and legality in Southeastern Nigeria.


According to Igbokwe, Kanu never had genuine control over the Eastern Security Network (ESN) or the armed activities associated with IPOB. Instead, he “set the house on fire” and left criminal elements to operate under the guise of political struggle. Igbokwe argued that by doing so, Kanu enabled individuals with violent tendencies to claim they were fighting for Biafra, effectively giving their crimes a cloak of legitimacy.

He highlighted the broad spectrum of criminal activity that was reframed as political activism. Armed robbers, kidnappers, political assassins, arsonists, and even organ traffickers allegedly adopted the language of liberation to justify their actions. Igbokwe stressed that this deliberate moral confusion was unprecedented in Nigerian history. While other regions continue to identify criminals as such, in the Southeast, Kanu’s rhetoric allowed lawbreakers to be labeled “freedom fighters” or “liberation fighters,” making it harder for law enforcement and communities to respond effectively.

Igbokwe also underscored the insult this creates to the memory of genuine Biafran soldiers who fought bravely during the Nigerian Civil War. By allowing criminals to claim political motives, he argued, Kanu diminished the sacrifices of those who gave their lives for the Biafran cause. The post painted a picture of a movement that prioritized political symbolism over practical accountability, leaving communities vulnerable and unsafe.

The APC chieftain warned that the consequences of this blurring of lines continue to affect ordinary Nigerians. Communities in the Southeast remain fearful as criminals exploit political rhetoric to carry out kidnappings, arson, and other violent acts. In his view, the moral and security crisis propagated by Kanu and IPOB has far-reaching implications for societal stability and public trust in governance.

We all know that what Joe said is nothing but the truth. In addition to that revelation, the history of the terrorist jailed in Sokoto prison before he appointed himself a Biafran activist is that of a IndecentStar.
After the death of Ojukwu and the incursion of the present political dispensation, the Igbo were desperate to have a leader whom they could rely on; this could explain why the majority of them believe so much in the Sokoto inmate president as their messiah.

When IPOB supporters was cheering Kanu on as he was inciting attacks on police stations, police checkpoints and any individual working in the police or military, they were inadvertently cultivating a culture of criminality for the IPOB movement.

Then Kanu set up his own security for the East but said that they are to base in the bush.
This made it easy for criminals, kidnappers and organ harvesters who normally hide in the bush to gain legitimacy by hiding under the cloak of IPOB Biafra agitation.
