Scenes from the #EyoFestival2025 flood the internet as the festival is celebrated all over Lagos state, a particular area had thugs chasing after festival people, the aftermath was a guy from brandishing a weapon, this violence is the reason Eyo festival was cancelled temporarily.

They forced the 'Gangs of Lagos' producers to apologize for showing Eyo as violent, but today, reality has finished the job. You can wrap a thug in white lace and call him a 'sacred masquerade,' but the spirit of Agbero inside him will always manifest.

Imagine a festival attended by the President and Governor, yet thugs are still chasing people and brandishing weapons in broad daylight. While other states are using festivals to attract investors, Lagos is using Eyo to show off which street has the most dangerous boys. The cancellation was overdue. If you want to see Eyo, watch it on YouTube; if you go there in person, you are basically signing a contract with a hospital or a mortuary. Sanwo-Olu and the Oba need to decide if they are running a cultural heritage or a state-sponsored gang war.
