This festival used be the highpoint of cultural events in Lagos those days. But with the desperation for political gains and supremacy by the players, the event became one of the most dangerous events in history. Thugs, condemned criminals cultists and there sponsors now use it to settle political, territorial supremacy and economic scores. That's why it ceased to be a yearly event and the scope of operation narrowed down.

Each rulling house and their participants are restricted and can't cross certain borders during their processions. Or else, there would be fatal bloodshed among rival groups even when unprovoked.

Is Lagos not scanty, just like Abuja and others? Do you expect the same people to attend Eyo festival, which by the way is the business of Yorubas of Lagos origin and not some wannabe Lagosians?
The same people own the businesses that pay the taxes that Lagos state brings to the center. Maybe you do not know that the VAT generated at the ports are paid by the same people, who by the way are vacationing presently.
