Following the recent announcement by the Nigerian NSA, Nuhu Ribadu, I have several genuine questions.

Did anyone actually hear about the recruitment of forest guards before now? Usually, when there is recruitment into Customs, the military, or other armed forces, the information is widely circulated. Somehow, this one seems to have happened without the public hearing anything about it.

In the same way that lists of new military, Customs, and other security recruits are made public, why have we not seen or heard anything about the list of forest guards?

Can each state or region in Nigeria confirm,through their local government areas, that they truly have representatives in the national forest guard scheme? And will these representatives serve within their own states, or will people unfamiliar with our lands be deployed as forest guards in other regions?

Why are states not allowed to independently handle the recruitment of forest guards within their jurisdictions?

Why is the entire process so secretive, yet unusually fast-tracked?

So many questions, yet so few answers.

Which way, Nigeria? Is this another ploy? If it is, all I can say is that it will not end well.

To the powers that be! Make una give peace a chance and respect everyone's ancestral home and right to freedom of religion. Make una drop whatever silly act you are trying to play against Nigerians. IT WOULD BACK FIRE TERRIBLY!!!!

The forest guards are not a military force, so the secretive nature of the recruitment process and the questions about it are absurd. They should have done the right thing by following due process.

Very valid questions...this is to avoid the case we had in Kwara state; where we had Bororo forest guards deployed to Forrests in a Yoruba majority state.


Another concern is , we hope the fg have a good understanding with the USA regarding their strikes in Nigeria.

I don't want a situation where the so called Forest guards would be boomed by Trump's Tomahawks.

The forest guards are a federal initiative and should be treated as such.

Ribadu a Fulani herdman himself want to recruit Fulani bandits as forest guard and deploy them to southern Nigeria in the name of security?

The south east governor should no allow the fulani terrorists to our region in the name of forest guards.

Federal government should monitor them, to make sure it does not contain same faith or ethic . Even their should be make public.

I find it hard to believe that 7000 forest guards would be hired without any information getting out. Is it even possible?

Even if they do, what are they supposed to do? Fight bandits?

Very questionable. How did they get these 7000 so called guards and who are these people?

In the meantime, because of the exigencies of the moment, nature of their operation, knowledge of the terrain and other logistical considerations, the recruitments were restricted to the local government areas of the worst-hit seven frontline states of Sokoto, Kebbi, Niger, Kwara, Adamawa, Borno and Yobe.
These are the most insecurity-affected areas and their operational base. The recruitment was done by the Office of the National Security Adviser, in conjunction with the affected state governments and the general public was duly informed prior to the exercise.

These questions are valid. I suspect that the recruitment is being done in a hurry for national security reasons.

Let them keep those people at the north. Any forest guard that would be spread across the nation MUST include people from EVERY OTHER TRIBE.

Thank u very much for the awareness, it is a mystery how Ribadu got his recruits, like u rightly noted this is the jurisdiction of the 774 local governments.

forest guards are terrorist organisations and it should be disbanded immediate.
