Nigeria was attacking Biafra from the North and the Midwest and west did not allow Nigerian soldiers to operate from their land. Col Ejoor clearly stated that he will not allow aggression against Biafra to pass through the Midwest. Awo made sure all Northern soldiers vacated the west.
Biafra should have focussed on the North and not on declaring the Midwest republic and invading Yoruba land. Even civilians in the Midwest attacked Biafran soldiers and to have expected the Yoruba to submit to 3000 Biafrans is rather strange. Again Awo was not against Biafra but was against the Biafrans colonizing the west. If you were him would you have submitted your land to Biafra? If you were the Midwesterners would you have done the same?

Any Yoruba fighting Biafra from the North. That was his business. There were Yorubas fighting for Biafra.

Would there have been a civil war if Mr. Azikiwe had not stupidly opposed the secession clause in the Constitution as proposed by Chief Awolowo? Believe it or not, the faulty foundation laid by the likes of Ironsi, Azikiwe, Ojukwu, Nzeogwu, and others is what Nigeria is still standing on to this day. You will understand all of this the moment you stop allowing emotion to rule over you.

I believe there would still have been a civil war. The civil war was largely because the Gowon coup was not successful in the East. The Gowon government created a state for the eastern minorities and Ojukwu did not recognize it. That led to the civil war but even without that other things would have led to it
