The writer's angst is understandable but the solution is not to throw tantrums but to engage constructively.
The VAT increase is inevitable but it would be gradual and well communicated.
The writer should also be ready to pay more for goods and services as an average consumer
APC BOT you are really working hard defending the indefensible.

Kudos to you.

As much as I'm not a Tinubu boy, we must set the record straight, VAT isn't increased neither is the tax also increased in the new law. They just want to widen the tax net. Either the op here is mischievous or just dumb. Nigerians always behave like educated illiterates everytime.

Is it a good thing for a country as big as Nigeria to be dependent on like 2 million bpd of oil? No. By the end of the first quarter of 2026 like 70 percent if not more of government revenue will be from non oil sources. That will be a good development and a step in the right direction. Then the new tax law has not increased VAT. It is still 7.5 percent

When Tinubu announced the removal of petrol subsidies on May 29, 2023, and petrol marketers suddenly increased the pump price of petrol from less than 200 naira to more than 500 naira on old stock that was subsidized by the Nigerian taxpayer, the government didn’t intervene.

This thing pained me so bad when it happened. It was like I dashed petrol station money twice. Not to talk of the food price increases that came with it.

"...I am honestly at a loss what Tinubu hopes to gain from this other than to make the vast majority of the people so economically disaffiliated that they are vulnerable to manipulation.

But I hope he is aware that he is sowing the seeds for a spontaneous eruption of a disabling convulsion. There is a limit to what even the most docile humans can tolerate.

My genuine hope is that Tinubu and the people close to him understand that they are brewing the ingredients of a potentially all-consuming conflagration and beat a strategic retreat. It’s not late... . Do zombiesm with sense!

You sound like me in your last paragraph eleven years ago on this forum.

Never believe what they tell you they will achieve by the yoke they put round your neck. All the Buhari hype on the infrastructure they claimed his government excelled in is just smoke and mirrors. Most highways remain in terrible state.

All the taxes they will burden you with will not result in any noticable improvement in your standard of living by the time they leave government.

This tells you that he is a man of his word. He talked about widening the tax net and that's exactly what he has done. Oyedele also was against taxing poverty and that us what they've worked hard to deliver. Where is the increase that people are crying about?

You imbecilic unpatriotic myrmidons should stop all these your lies and propaganda.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu did not increase VAT.
The VAT rate was 7.5% before he became president and the VAT still remain at 7.5% till date.
If you disagree, show evidence of the increase.

Are you minding them? It's agenda. They have no game plans as opposition and are helpless with all the defections. They know that the tax reform is great and will further cement their certain loss when people see the results this time next year. So they're doing everything to stop it. There'll be more noise about every itch when the reforms begin.

Prof, please take it easy on the President. The VAT increase is in the interest of all Nigerians and the patriotic investors and businesses that want to see Nigeria prosper. May God bless Nigeria for ever!
What did they do with the trillions generated from subsidy removal?
How has it helped Nigeria to prosper more?
You're definitely one of the 30k orchins.

this mentality of Anyone criticizing morbid policies of these govt is hates the govt or is unpatriotic is riduculous

Every policy we have criticised that Tinubu went on to implemented, please tell us the outcome 2yrs after tell us the impact

We dont owe Tinubu love, we dont feed from him and we are not on his pay roll

The subsidy removal, the promises where are they ??

Adelabu was shoutin electric hike was the ultimate solution post implementation today what is Nig. Megawatt, did electric improve ?

Every time this govt impose hardship on thd people tellin us to sacrifice ... what do we get at the end

2yrs of this administration what as changed for better, is it roads, health, security or is it economic .. the naira is so uselezz even highiest country cant buy a family loaf of bread

If we Hate this govt that as not fulfilled one good promise to the people ... tell us why we should luv this govt
criticizing with lies suggesting VAT increase is not an intelligent response. It is malicious. What are the morbid policies? Removal of fuel subsidy? Unification of multiple and wide differential in exchange rate? Ask yourself if we still have power subsidy or not? Anyone thinking Nigeria can maintain the feeding bottle strategy of yesteryears with a rapidly growing population and dwindling income per capita is only displaying childish tantrums. You do not have to love this govt., but hate against the country and policies that will improve the economy is a no no. The macro economics are improving, the micro economics tends to take time because it will trickle down.

Like i said, what you are displaying is "childish tantrums", because you want the feeding bottle to continue; grow up !. There are too many gullible folks around like you.

What has the govt. hiked? The humanface thing to do is to avoid Nigeria going the way of Zimbabwe. The politicians you call thieves are just you and me doing their thing. Whether the economy is flourishing or collapsing is not stopping them , and not even your favourites have any magic bullet to fully stop them.

what feeding bottle, if presidency, senator and reps can get a feeding allowances why is it a taboo for citizens to enjoy some form of subsidy as feeding bottle
Since Tinubu became president how much of his personal money go into is feeding nd endeavours ... there own feeding bottle can continue but subsidize for people is the "abberation" of the century abi

If " subsidizing" is as " Evil" as Tinubu nd his supporters as made it why did Tinubu protested against jonathan when he tried to remove it gradually.... thats the hypocrisy

Grow up into what ?? a Tax regime, even when empirical fact as shown no nation as successfully tax hersef to prosperity .... intensifying Taxation on a low productivity economy depict Tinubu is a big fuull

check, since they have being increasing this, hike that what as changed ... even the revenue target wale edun confirmed we didnt meet, meaning Tinubu is lied

what zimbabwe way ?? do you even know how Zimbabwe went down that way ... tryin to build a nation on Heavy Taxation nd loans back2back how is that off Zimbabwe way
