I watched that program, and most of Allen Onyema's statements were contradictory.

How can air tickets be the cheapest in Nigeria when some flights from one European country to another cost around €40–60, whereas a 45-minute domestic flight in Nigeria can go up to ₦200,000–500,000—during this festive season when no new taxes have been introduced? Also no change in exchange rate or increase in price of aviation ticket.

Secondly, Allen Onyema himself admitted that under Buhari, spare parts and new aircraft purchases were made tax-free starting from 2021/2022. That the current proposed tax law seeks to reintroduce those taxes. The question that immediately came to mind when he said this was: Sir, if taxes were removed back then, why did airlines increase ticket prices from around ₦20/30k in 2022 to ₦150,000–200,000 now (an 8–10 times increase) for the same routes?

Everything points to greed.
The American fugitive is trying too hard to please Tinubu and his fellow redeemed saints in Oshiomhole’s Assembly of Past Criminals, APC.

He should ask Tinubu for the contact details of those who helped him negotiate the forfeiture of money for his jail time.

And what was the APC government doing when those fairs was raised arbitrarily?

They just watched as Nigerians suffer in the hands of airlines operators, just like they are watching as the Nigerian police is planning on selling the tinted glass permit on a very high amount to Nigerians.

Please what kind of government is this?

The only answer is GREED and IRRESPONSIBLE government.
Watch
That greedyfool is likely raising money to become a senator or governor of his state. The least is that he's raising money for someone he wants to support.
People are just very GREEDY and evil in this country

There's absolutely no justification for any flight within Nigeria that exceeds 300k.

A quick breakdown of the said taxes and levies will go a long way in clarifying issues and exposing those who need to be exposed.
Exactly ! let dem give us a break down of ALL the taxes levied on avaiation, only then we know the truth

If you open a company today the number of levies, taxes and agencies that will visit you in one month is alarming

If you saw Alex interview and you choose to believe this government agent, you're not serious. If and when the airlines go under, the government won't provide you with alternatives.

He mentioned taxes, forex rates, interest rates in Nigeria, availability of parts and maintenance costs plus some other things.

They make the same amount of expenses like foreign airlines and they don't earn as much

You are the Government. Know the difference, otherwise if you can't understand this simple fact, then airfare will soon jump to 5m due to unlimited greed you are endorsing.

Capitalism typically tries to pleases the consumer in other sane countries through atmosphere of competition. Only you understand the kind of capitalism you are trying to establish here, capitalism that doubles prices of good and services every market day without any explanation.

Okay we've heard but it's just like you said something without saying anything.
How much are the taxes so we can know who is ripping who?
Also should there not be a cap to the pricing of various routes to protect Nigerians?
Thirdly, What resolutions are you guys making to solve this gruesome increase by airline operators?
It's so sad
If you’ve ever bought a flight ticket before in Nigeria, you will see the taxes written clearly in the breakdown of the total cost.

I don’t have to believe anybody but the exact reality. Below are two flights ticket this December. So tell me, how exactly are taxes the reason for the high cost of flight tickets?

Does this mean that the aviation industry is to be held accountable for the increase in airfare costs 🤔
Yes,there is something around the aviation industry that needs to be thoroughly looked at.
Nigeria's minimum wage lower than those from countries they are comparing flight prices with. Why didn't they move their operations to the European and American countries if they can afford to run their businesses there? Cheap labor in Nigeria keeps them afloat at the expense of the Nigerian common man. Shame on them all.

Greedy mofos.

There is no national carrier. If a Dangote runs an airline and applies standard international fair pricing (as he is still trying to in fuel pricing - with much systemic setbacks), we would cry monopoly. If not for the likes of him, fuel prices would have hit 2k/ltr and a cement bag would be over 20k. Argue with what u already see

Basically, if there has not been any increase in taxes or price of aviation fuel, why did the price of airplane ticket increase during the holidays? Greed.

The same reason the prices of bus fares too increase in december despite the fact that the price of petrol did not increase
Looool its called principle of supply and demand. Lets not be hypocrites! Its a worldwide thing, when there is surge in demand, prices go up.

You want a salary of 1m per month, but you dont want corporations to increase fares? Loooool

If you cant afford it, seat your as at home!

Its common sense! Hotels, everything even uber fares surge during rush hours!

Stop yapping about greed, when you open your own company, run it as you desire.

Attached is ticket prices from Beijing to Guangzhou in China; a three and a half hour flight. Prices range between USD$99 - USD$129 depending on the airline, and travel time is over 3hours, but in Nigeria, airlines charge over USD$300 for an hour flight. Transactions in Nigeria, not just air tickets, are usually always overpriced! And this is the making of the business owners, because most times they’re usually focused on short term gains, none of them have any plan for long term gains, which is a major challenge for consumers. So Nigerian masses (consumers) are always at the receiving end and government agencies who are supposed to protect consumers usually don’t have the required will to protect the people or are compromised. Very pathetic!

Guess why Sir Richard Branson pulled Virgin Nigeria out of the country? Because of too much BS going on in the aviation industry (read, bribes, corruption, inability to take the earnings out of the country).

We Nigerians are the enemies of ourselves, when pms price was going up, our transporters are using it as excuses to increase transport fares but now that the price is coming down instead of decreasing the fares it's going up.

That nigeria for you, same way local rice farmers are crying that imported rice is killing their business, same people buhari gave free loans and other resources only for local rice price to jump by over 100%

Nigerians are the problem of nigeria .

Allen Onyema is a liar and a bad one at that.

Did the aviation taxes magically increased on Dec 1st to warrant the hike in airfares? If the airlines have been profitable from January-November, what made the difference in December other than wanton profiteering and insatiable greed?

Did he said Nigerians pays the lowest airfare in the whole world?

Worthington DC to london is over 6000 km.
The average flight right now is 700k naira roound-trip. And That about 7 to 8 hours for a single trip

Whereas Lageo to enugu is merely above 500km. Yet the average price right now is 200k round trip. That's about 1 hour for a single trip.

It was 500k during Xmas though
I hope you are also not lying! Cos this suggests that Washington to London is $474 round trip? i don't belive that. Which Airline?

On second thought I take it back. Just did a search and at least saw flight of N850k. But basic economy where you will still pay for even your first checked in luggage if you have one. And cannot select seat, which I don't like cos I'm very tall.

But depending on the needs of others, it could work.

But there are many factors at play.

1.Demand and supply
2. Taxes
3. Turnover of the plane

and many more.

The naira was devalued by Tinubu. Inflation ballooned. Those spare parts' and servicing prices increased since they are always imported.

This is not to defend his actual statement.
