World heavyweight boxing star Anthony Joshua was involved in a road traffic accident on Monday along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Makun, Ogun State.

Eyewitnesses said the crash happened on a busy stretch of the highway when the vehicle conveying Anthony Joshua collided with another car. The exact cause of the accident remains under investigation by local authorities.

An eyewitness, who took part in the rescue operation and spoke to Punch, disclosed that Joshua sustained minor injuries in the incident. Sadly, two people were confirmed dead at the scene.

But what is the issue with these people who bring out their phone to video any time there is an incidence, making it very difficult for the rescue team to act?

The Federal Road Safety Corps in Nigeria have posted an image showing the site of the crash that Anthony Joshua was involved in.

Road safety officials say five adult males were involved in the crash - two of whom have died. Two others "escaped unhurt".

Joshua was "rescued alive and sustained minor injuries". He was taken for "medical attention".

An update from the Federal Road Safety Corps says a Lexus Jeep involved in the incident was suspected to be travelling "beyond the legally prescribed speed limit".

They say the car lost control during "an overtaking manoeuvre" and crashed into a stationary truck by the side of the road.

OMG! He definitely is severe leg pains.

AJ your "Ori" is intact and very STRONG. If he hadn't sat at the back of that car, AJ would've been dead by now.

President 'Bola Tinubu who AJ met in December 2024, Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu and a lot of folks will definitely rally round to ensure he's adequately taken care of before he's flown abroad.

I'm still a bit sad about the loss of those 2 folks in the car with him. Their earthly cycles have ended. My sincere condolences again go to their families.
