President Tinubu Calls Anthony Joshua To Sympathize With Him

AJ,

I extend my deep sympathies to you following the tragic accident on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, which claimed two precious lives and caused you injuries.

This immense tragedy casts a deep shadow on this season.

I sympathise with you and your family as you bear the emotional weight of this unfortunate incident. As a sportsman, you have always shown courage, discipline, and unwavering love for our country. These are qualities that have made you a source of national pride.

In moments like this, we must encourage one another as brothers and sisters with a shared destiny.

I pray for strength, wisdom, and grace for you during this painful period. May God grant you a speedy recovery and repose to the souls of the departed.

STATEHOUSE PRESS RELEASE

President Tinubu, in telephone conversation with AJ, the mother, after tragic accident

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu spoke by phone today with Anthony Joshua, the Nigerian-British former heavyweight boxing champion, following the tragic accident in Ogun State in which Joshua was injured and lost two of his associates.

"I spoke with AJ on the phone to personally convey my condolences over the death of his two associates. I wished him well and prayed for him. He assured me that he is receiving the best care in the hospital.

"I also spoke with AJ's mother and prayed for her. She was very appreciative of my call.

"Additionally, I spoke to Governor Dapo Abiodun, who was in the hospital with them. The Governor assured me that he will do everything possible to ensure AJ receives the best possible attention."

Earlier, in a statement on X, President Tinubu—who is currently abroad—expressed profound sympathy for the boxer over the accident on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.

"I sympathise with you and your family as you bear the emotional weight of this unfortunate incident. As a sportsman, you have always shown courage, discipline, and unwavering love for our country. These are qualities that have made you a source of national pride.

"In moments like this, we must encourage one another as brothers and sisters with a shared destiny.

"I pray for strength, wisdom, and grace for you during this painful period. May God grant you a speedy recovery and repose to the souls of the departed."

Now compare this message with the below

It is with deep concern that I received the news of the road accident involving former heavyweight boxing champion, Mr. @anthonyjoshua, in Makun, Ogun State.

It is particularly worrisome that this incident occurred while he was in Nigeria. Many of us are also compelled to reflect on reports that no ambulance was readily available to convey him to the hospital.

May God Almighty grant him a speedy recovery, and I extend my deepest sympathies to the families of the two lives lost. May God grant them comfort and grant the departed eternal rest. -PO

What should have been a brief moment of sympathy followed by dignified silence was instead converted into a campaign rally by the self-anointed messiah. Rather than simply commiserate and move on, he somehow discovered a way to blame the absence of an ambulance on Tinubu, because, apparently, even road mishaps now require federal clearance.

Never mind that ambulance services are, in reality, largely a state government responsibility. One is left wondering, during his tenure as governor of Anambra, did this sudden passion for emergency response manifest in any tangible form? Can he point to a policy that ensured ambulances were stationed every 10 kilometres, or is this concern a recent revelation, activated only when cameras, and political mileage are conveniently available?

But your tin-god is currently in Europe alias France for what SaharaReporters said is a medical checkup. Why couldn't he stay behind in his own country to do so if everything is alright.

But seriously speaking was it not the responsibility of the Ogun State governor to ensure that AJ is safe and sound during his trip? I thought the governors of Edo and Benue earlier this year had warned Peter Obi not to visit their states without getting clearance from them since he's a VIP?

https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/808237-edo-governor-under-fire-for-warning-peter-obi-against-entering-state-without-permission.html?tztc=1

AJ is a global icon so how come the state couldn't provide top class vehicles and staff to assist him during his visit? Or were the governors just making politics statements simply because it was Peter Obi??

Can the President ensure we fix the problems that led to this accident?

Driver training and mindset
Road Safety personnel identifying hazards rather than looking for egunje.
Trucks parking on a lane of the road.
Emergency services that have no understanding of emergency response.

We must stop being a society that does not learn from any experience, thereby perpetuating a lack of improvement.

You are minding him. Anthony Joshua who is always in Nigeria and is in a romance with his nation of origin, now he is a very wealthy man who can live anywhere he wants in the world, is who he wants to lecture about remaining in the UK and staying away from Nigeria..

As if Joshua does not have his reasons for being here always. Some people simply think all others hate and resent Nigeria as they do.

At least, AJ has never told you he is not proud of his country of origin, has he? Has he ever discussed with you he hates his country? He is a true Nigerian who tries to make his country proud. Has the boxer ever complained to you that his identification with Nigeria has caused any downfall for him?

For the accident, Nigeria is the only country where stars and celebrities ever get involved in accident I guess. Keep your hate to yourselves, no one is willing to join you in that journey. AJ is a Nigerian and has never regretted being one.
