Gebbe community in the Shanga Local Government Area of Kebbi State has come under a deadly attack by gunmen suspected to be terrorists, leaving an unknown number of residents dead and several others injured according to local sources.

According to eyewitnesses, the gunmen struck suddenly, opening fire indiscriminately on residents, forcing many to flee to nearby bushes and neighbouring communities for safety.


The community is reportedly in shock, as it has not experienced such a violent assault in years.

“The gunmen came suddenly and started shooting. People ran in all directions. We are still in shock. Many have fled to the surrounding villages,” one resident, who requested anonymity, told SaharaReporters.

The police have also confirmed the attack.


The Police Public Relations Officer, Bashir Usman, told Channels Television that officers are currently on the ground assessing the situation.

“We are on top of the matter and are working to determine the number of casualties and injuries. An official statement will be issued soon,” Usman said.

Residents have appealed to the government and security agencies to intervene urgently, describing the attack as deadly and unprecedented for the area.

Calls to the village head for comment were not answered at the time of reporting.

Security sources said reinforcements have been deployed to the area to prevent further bloodshed.
