But how. I would like to know. Seriously. Jibes aside.

If you are talking about emergency reaction, pls say so. We can speak to that.
That and more that I know he will face when he gets to the hospital. Let's just hope he survives as well

Emergency responses on an inter state high way anywhere in the world may be delayed.

Secondly you talked about his friends. They died instantly on the spot. Emergency responses would not have saved them.

Thirdly, you dont seem to have taken note that this accident was one in which they were driving at speed, overtaking and ran into a stationary vehicle. That was reckless driving and not Nigeria failing anyone.

I am worried that even if he survives, his career may be affected as well.

What rubbish did you just wrote? You actually don't know what you are saying. He was not going to Ibadan, he was going to Sagamu, Ogun State. If I may ask is your brain infested with maggots ? How can you describe Lagos Ibadan expressway as " most kidnapper-infested highways" . Do you live in alternate universe? When last did you hear of kidnapping on this highway?
The only error in his text was his description of AJ's destination he was wrong about tht but you should know that Lagos-Ibadan expressway was terrorized sometimes ago, it was so bad that someone like me leaving lagos for ib (and vice versa), using that road might be threatening and the dread is still there till date....not untill when we all confirm tht nigeria is commendably safe.

Baba, it was a ridiculous risk he took, we thank God he was not kidnapped, may be you would have appreciated that guy's analysis better... I don even understand what compelled the driver to be on a high speed to the extent that he lost control and made two good fellas lost their lives - why AJ no caution the eedeeot sef abi na technical fault no

Well, I don't know in what context you meant the dangerous but there's really nothing dangerous about that road; road is smooth even till you get to sagamu from Lagos. Trucks park on the shoulder of the road along that way though, so I won't be surprised if this incident happened due to wrong overtaking towards the right side of the, hence running to stationary truck.
SadiqBabaSani:
AJ should have used a chopper, that Road is very dangerous

Didn't know about these details and now that I do, quick question, in a sane clime, will the stationary vehicle be allowed to be in such a sensitive spot in the first place? Common sense dictates that the FRSC would have towed the vehicle to a safer place but hey what do I know

Seriously, he should have considered it, because here we are. His 2 daily companions and close friends are dead.

But then again, Kobe Bryant's loved ones probably wish he'd gone by road when his chopper crashed.

That is exactly what I thought. I do not understand why a guy like that should be plying that kind of road at this time of the year.
Jakumo:
The chartered helicopter could have taken the champ from his hotel in Lekki, Lagos, directly to Ibadan in less than 15 minutes flight time.

For all his brilliance, technique and power as a world-class boxer, Anthony Joshua's instinct for self-preservation was not attuned enough to prevent him from traveling aboard a flashy new SUV along one of the most kidnapper-infested highways on this green planet.

A man worth tens of millions of dollars would have been the hostage catch of a lifetime for a terrorist Fulani kidnapping bandit gang of the sort that set up frequent blockades on that same Ibadan Expressway with regularity. until just a few months ago when security was beefed up in the area.

Evidenced by what please? Where is the CCTV footage or speed trackers that concluded this? Are you now beginning to understand the gravity of the systemic failures in your country?

Let's not go into all that. Let's just hope that Anthony is at least safe

Indeed, but no where in the world does towing always happen instantly, especially on an inter state highway.

The damage on his car, if you have seen it, is enough evidence when you consider that the truck they ran into was stationary.

Not at all good Doc. Its an inter state highway. If a truck breaks down, it may take time to be removed or even parked by the side. If anyone in that window of time is careless enough to drive with such speed while overtaking in broad day light (no fog, no rain either) and smash into it with enough velocity to destroy the vehicle at the level we saw and smash the head of one of his friends immediately into pulp, that is reckless driving.

Do you drive?

I have been driving for nearly 20 years. Started quite early. Another quick question, how long has the stationary trick been on the highway? Do you have that piece of information because I can predict with a high degree of probability that it has been there for at least a week

That info, I dont have to be honest. But my views as one who drives (for 30 years now) is simple: When overtaking, you watch carefully first to see what is ahead of you (and you never overtake around a blind curve - not that this was the case here, just saying) - there is simply no way this could happen with a normal careful driver. Severe recklessness was involved.

When I said - "in that window of time" dont you understand that even if it was there for five minutes, anyone driving that recklessly would meet the same fate?

Your assumption is based on the fact that we are all careful drivers which is not the case. In developed nations, extra steps are taken to ensure the safety of everyone (including the reckless drivers). Why on earth will a stationary vehicle, and a truck for that matter, be on the highway for more than an hour?

It's easier to lay all the blame on the driver but the truth remains that this incident could have been avoided, notwithstanding the "recklessness" (yet to be proven) of the driver.

As an experienced driver of over 30 years, you must agree with me that one does not drive for himself alone but for others as well. One should anticipate and avert issues while driving and your designated "trained" road safety officers should have anticipated the same in this case.

I have sped and overtaken vehicles a good number of times on the highway, that stationary vehicle has no business being there on that road. That vehicle likely caused the accident and the government is complicit as well.

Two lives now gone, condolences rendered by the president, said truck still firmly in place and you tell me this country is working
