NNPP expels Kano State chairman

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has expelled its Kano State chairman, Hashim Suleman Dungurawa, with effect from December 30, 2025. Reasons include inciting division within the party, poor leadership, disrespecting members and the Kano State Governor, and causing setbacks for the party. This comes amid persistent talks that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf might defect to the APC.

Shuaibu Hassan, the NNPP chairman of Gargari Ward in Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area, confirmed the expulsion to BBC Hausa.

It appears there is a division in the NNPP camp in Kano. The governors appointees and loyalists are pushing for a move to APC which will automatically guarantee a second term for the governor while the Kwakwanso camp are against the move.

While I prefer both of them to join APC, I will accept the governor and his camp if Kwakwanso decides to stay back. The governor’s camp plus the existing APC structure is enough to win the election.

Lol. If wishes were horses. Abba is only decamping to ensure that APC doesn't field anyone against him. Who wouldn't defect to run unopposed? Tinubu is prioritising himself, sacrificing political ambitions of others just to ensure his own re-election. It will backfire. Ganduje is already breathing fire and brimstone. Just like Fubara and Wike, some political camps can just never work together. It will all come crashing down as soon as Tinubu picks a side. Tinubu is desperate.

Exactly what is happening, I was with kwankwaso yesterday, the governor, House of assembly members and all local government chairmen are moving and wanted to have done that earlier on, he wasn't happy because his demands from the presidency hasn't been met yet, so he is feeling angry that they used his platform and are dumping him. He lamented how the governor even stopped picking his calls.
So to safe face, some elders in the state convinced him to move with the governor to APC, else he will loose all political relevance.

Nothing is guaranteed if the move is made without Kwankwaso. The governor has no concrete structure and the existing structure remains that of Madugu (Kwankwaso).

Apart from the Buhari, he is one of the very few northern politicians to enjoy cult-like following (though on a limited scale). Let him decamp solely to APC let's see.
