Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has declared that he will not defect from the Labour Party, despite the decision of the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to leave the party.

Governor Otti made this known on Tuesday during his monthly media chat held in Umuahia, where he addressed growing speculations about his political future following reports of Obi’s planned exit from the Labour Party.

The Governor disclosed that Peter Obi had personally informed him of his intention to leave the party, adding that he gave him his blessings. However, Otti emphasized that his own political path remains firmly rooted in the Labour Party for now.

According to the Governor, his membership of the Labour Party predates that of Peter Obi, stressing that he did not join the party because of the former Anambra State governor.

“If you remember, I joined the Labour Party before Peter Obi, so I did not join the party with him,” Otti said.

He further explained that while Obi’s decision is respected, he has chosen to remain in the party in order to contribute to efforts aimed at rebuilding and repositioning it.

“He has communicated to me that he is leaving the Labour Party. I gave him my blessings. But I will remain in the Labour Party, and I told him that I would continue the struggle to rescue the Labour Party,” the Governor stated.

Otti noted that the Labour Party provided the platform that brought him to power, making it necessary for him to stay and help strengthen the party’s internal structures and direction.

He added that discussions about alternative political options would only arise after genuine efforts have been made to reposition the party.

“That is the party that brought me to power. If we fight and get to the end, and we are able to reposition the Labour Party, then we can discuss other options. Therefore, for now, I am not defecting to any party,” Otti concluded.

Exactly how a grown man should sound.

Any party that does not believe in rotating power between the North and South has no good intentions for the country. Why should Otti port? Some politicians believe that power is their inheritance whether they are competent or not. Anybody joining a party that has already secretly zoned their nomination to a particular politician needs to have his brain checked. Those joining are 2nd fiddle there Primaries there are a formality. They can as well announce their candidate today without any primaries - the party is some people's perpetual SPV.

It's not Obi wish to leave the labour party, but satanic Amunda Yekini has sent his agent to destroyed the party beyond repairs, it's good for Obi to leave the party for them. For a record, nobody knows labour party, nobody considers the party , the love and respect labour party garnered was all because of one man, obi. I will like to see the popularity of labour party in the next general election. Let them present their presidential aspirant and let's see if the person will get up to 20 votes. Obi made labour party what labour is today, labour party is just being ungrateful. The only good thing remaining in labour is this Otti, and that's within the Abia state axis, because I know that Otti is winning his reelection because man is on steroid performance.

Otti will be defecting to APC like the rest of his counterparts. Out of desperation, Tinubu has promised all governors and other defectors automatic ticket to the detriment of the political careers of other old-time APC stalwarts. Who wouldn't take advantage of it, especially when it's topped with money? The problem with that selfish plan is that the governors may return elected, depending on their performance, but still fail to deliver Tinubu because he will have a formidable opposition and their popularity is not transferable. Aggrieved APC members will also be unenthusiastic in campaigning for Tinubu, and some will covertly sabotage the party out of spite. We are already seeing signs of that in Delta, Enugu, Kano, Osun (even though Tinubu selfishly protected his cousin Oyetola's interest by preventing Adeleke's defection).

That is how it should be. Moving from the party that brought you to power to another party should be seeing as treason.

If the ruling party had not used state apparatus and power of incumbency to destroy all other opposition parties, do you think Obi and Atiku will defect from their parties. If the hunter has learnt to shoot without aiming, the bird will also learn to fly without perching. Tinubu's desperation has inadvertently led him to what he feared most and tried to prevent by destroying opposition, the unification of all opposition under one single umbrella. He has no pathway to re-election.

Alex Otti is the best Governor in Nigeria today, he has done a great job in Abia state, he has repositioned Abia state in reality not through media propaganda, you need to visit Aba, Umuahia and also hear from Abia state people living in Abia state.


Such a wonderful, over-performing Governor does not need campaign for reelection, especially in the Southeast where good governance is highly appreciated without waiting for one political godfather to approve first, and also most past and present Governors there have been a joke.


Even if Alex Otti decides to contest without a party, he will win. Nobody can defeat Alex Otti unless the person wants to fight with the people of Abia state. INEC cannot even rig it even if Tinubu mandate them to rig it cos there will not be any room to even start the rigging.
