Anthony Joshua May Not Fight Again After Fatal Crash, Says Tyson Fury’s Manager by OLAADEGBU(op): 1:00pm On Dec 31, 2025
He may never have the 'appetite' to fight again 💔
Anthony Joshua may never fight again after losing his 'appetite' for boxing in crash which killed his friends, says Tyson Fury's manager Frank Warren in message about mental health fears

Anthony Joshua may never have the 'appetite' to fight again after narrowly surviving a car crash that killed two of his best friends, Tyson Fury's promoter Frank Warren believes.

Joshua, 36, was a passenger in the back of a black Lexus when it ploughed into a stationary truck on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Makun, Nigeria, on Monday, tragically claiming the lives of Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele.

The two-time world heavyweight champion had been visiting family in Nigeria as part of a one-week holiday, with a view to resuming training ahead of a fight in late March, prior to his proposed showdown against Fury in the autumn of 2026.

But with fears over his injuries being worse than has been publicised, as well as the mental torment of two of his friends dying, it remains unclear whether Joshua will be fit enough - or even want to - return to the ring.

'This is an awful time for everyone involved and hopefully AJ has come out of it physically well,' Warren told ITV News.

'But mentally is another issue. I don't even know if he'll have the appetite to fight again or if he will fight again, that is something that only time will tell.'

Fury, who has been managed by Warren since February 2019, himself paid tribute to Joshua's friends Sina and Latif - who he wished would be given 'a good bed in heaven'.

A fight between the two British heavyweights has long been in the pipeline and Warren himself admitted that a deal would be struck to make the fight happen in 2026 should the financial package be right.

Sources close to Joshua, who most recently fought Jake Paul less than a fortnight ago, say he is set to remain in hospital for New Year's Eve and at least a couple more days.

Police investigators confirmed the car crash was caused by a tyre blowout after Joshua's Lexus 'lost control'. Local authorities told Daily Mail Sport that Joshua is 'stable' and suffered only 'minor' injuries, though there are fears they could be more severe.

Traffic police believe the car was travelling over the 50mph speed limit and lost control during 'an overtaking manoeuvre' on what locals have claimed is one of Nigeria's deadliest roads, according to The Telegraph.

Babatunde Akinbiyi, the Police Commander of Nigeria's Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (Trace), reported that the vehicle had 'experienced a tyre burst because of excessive speed'.

An eyewitness told PUNCH newspaper: 'It was a two-vehicle convoy: a Lexus SUV and a Pajero SUV.

'Joshua was seated behind the driver, with another person beside him. There was also a passenger sitting beside the driver, making four occupants in the Lexus that crashed. His security detail was in the vehicle behind them before the crash.

'Other eyewitnesses and I began the rescue and flagged down oncoming vehicles to assist. A few minutes after the crash, officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps arrived.'

Nigeria's president revealed on Monday that Joshua's mother Yeta Odusanya had rushed to his bedside at the hospital after being informed of the crash.

Which one is appetite again...

Is it eating competition? If he doesn't have any serious injuries that prevents him from fighting which one is appetite there?

It may only take him a while to get over the physiological effects.

When I had an accident on kano road while heading back to Jos it took me a couple of months to start driving again because of the physiological effects.

But I don't even see how any such trauma can affect his boxing career since it's not connected.

I could continue and do every of my other daily routines and activities I just had the fear to drive until I gradually adjusted.

AJ would bounce back if he wants!

I said so yesterday. Joshua may not fight again. The G-forces his upper body experienced in that sudden deceleration event will reduce his upper body strength a great deal. I don't see him stepping into the ring in the next 12 months.
Re: Anthony Joshua May Not Fight Again After Fatal Crash, Says Tyson Fury’s Manager by RillJ(m): 1:27pm On Dec 31, 2025
Nigeria didn't happen to Joshua on this.
It was merely an accident, a fatal one at that simply out of human error.
Analysis of events surely indicate that the driver either erred in judgement or might had slept off prior to event.
When you are fatigued, wared out from sleeplessness or indulgence, DO NOT DRIVE.
God saved me from a likely situation in 2011 and I was alone.

So sad.
RIP to the dead.

Babatunde Akinbiyi, the Police Commander of Nigeria's Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (Trace), reported that the vehicle had 'experienced a tyre burst because of excessive speed'.
&someone travelling at a modest speed of 80km/hr would have arrived his destination safely, before them.

That's the folly of overspeeding; you may never arrive your destination.

AJ is worth at least 100 million pounds. If he decides to stop fighting, he has enough money to last a life time while still supporting his entire family.

But I won’t be surprised to see him fighting again next year. He go use all the earnings from two fights to settle the families of his late friends.

Which appetite is this referring to?
After overcoming the psychological trauma, Joshua would develop an appetite for brutality; an instinct sharpened by survival. Having faced death directly and emerged victorious, he is no longer restrained by hesitation or mercy. The experience strips away his fear and replaces it with a cold, ruthless resolve. From this point forward, Joshua becomes more mercilessly brutal, driven by the understanding that survival belongs to those willing to confront death head-on and defeat it without hesitation.

The appetite here is not about food or eating. It's psychological and has to do with mental health

It's similar to the same thing you're talking about regarding your own experience

Only God can save this country called Nigeria
But the way I'm seeing it,it appears to be God-forsaken. Please in all you do when you're rich avoid going to the village. Poor people think you're the cause of their poverty. The hate is too much
