Excerpts from the Ex-Anambra Governor's address on his defection to ADC

Today is an important day, today is the last day of the year of 2025. So we are ending this year with hope that in 2026, we will begin a journey of rescue for our country, for proper socio-economic development that will be unifying and inclusive.

We have all watched those who benefitted from our democracy sometime, now become accessories to destroying our democracy, either through coercion and gangsterism against the opposition. We can not allow this to happen, we will resist it. We have now seen people who benefitted from our democracy be part of those celebrating electoral flaw, publicly and we are now saying those planning to rig election in Nigeria come 2027, we will resist it by any means lawful and legitimate.

This happened because we have weak institutions like INEC and we are urging them that in the coming elections, we must do whatever it is to follow the rules and regulations starting by educational qualification for eligibility to sit for any election. We can no longer be where they are asking whether this person went to school or not. We have one year now to determine who went to school and who did not go to school. W have one year now for people to tell us the school they attended and when they left those schools. We don't want it to be something we go to Court after election and they tell us it is pre-election matter, we have pre-election situation now to verify everybody who wants to contest election in Nigeria.

The report of the last election clearly showed that rigging was more pronounced in the south east than any other region in Nigeria. So, when the major beneficiary of the 2023 rigging has made rigging the talking point of his 2027 presidential contest, I think it’s better for INEC to start taking notice.

Those who plan to rig always make the loudest rigging claim against others. We shall collectively ensure that the kind of rigging that happened in the South East in 2023 doesn’t repeat itself again in 2027.

2027 will be the most transparent election in Nigeria.

Never in the history of democracy has the winner emerged before the election, and that is happening first in Nigeria.

The formation of the APC is a straight kill that a combination of all oppositions cannot challenge.

It’s not being pro APC, it’s about facing the reality on ground. Any opposition channeling funds into 2027 is just doing charity!

Practically, APC does not have any opposition in 2027.

In his speech, Pitobi was declaring war again, apparently the only campaign strategy he knows, just as he once did in that now-infamous “yes daddy” leaked phone conversation, where he generously managed to offend Muslims and common sense in one breath.

Given his remarkable talent for taking counsel from a certified madman and landing face-first every single time, one wonders what exactly prevents him from seeking advice elsewhere. Surely, the world is not so short of sane people that he must keep recycling the same disastrous consultant.

At the very least, someone might have whispered the elementary truth to him, and to his equally excitable followers, that politics is governed by logic, persuasion, and reason, not war cries and emotional tantrums. The electorate, inconveniently for them, are human beings, not barbarians waiting for battle drums.

But then again, expecting clarity from Pitobi may itself be an act of wild optimism.

I hope he will not defect. He is most welcome to the party that will flush Tinubu and APC away. Not the democracy we paid for.
