The Nigerian Television Authority( NTA) is a Nigerian government-owned and partly commercial broadcast station. Originally known as Nigerian Television (NTV), it was inaugurated in 1977 with a monopoly on national television broadcasting, after a takeover of regional television stations by military governmental authorities in 1976.

NTA is Africa's largest TV network, with a presence in virtually every state and major town in Nigeria, making it a truly nationwide broadcaster. The NTA operates over 100 stations across Nigeria, the largest network in Africa.

After a declining interest from the public in government-influenced programming, it lost its monopoly over television broadcasting in Nigeria in the 1990s. This led to the springing up of private TV stations to boost the industry.

NTA Channel 10 seems seems to be relatively fair of the ones I have ever accessed. Programming was poorly executed with archaic studio.

NTA 2 CHANNEL 5, LAGOS, that one looked like a foreign station in the 80s and 90s.

NTA is totally bull crap now. It was something back then in the 1990s. But its just trash now. Video quality is also terrible.
No more good programs. Even the news we were managing then is now state sponsored propaganda.
No amount of PR can dress up this damage.

I don't understand all those chronicles of NTA you put up there. What do they mean?

Anyway, i use to watch NTA on dstv. It my best television news channel because of their amazing talk-shows. like agricultural shows, family education show, skills and handwork shows, career/business shows, cooking show, entrepreneur shows, celebrities talking about their private life discussion shows, cultural shows, sports initiative shows, the list is endless.

It was NTA 2 Channel 5 that was the best those days in terms of programs aired and picture quality. People in Lagos can relate.

Meanwhile Channel 7 Lagos is not on the list. As bad as we however thought that NTA channel 10 was in Lagos, it was way better than Channel 7.

I remember with nostalgia those moments when we will sit in front of the TV a few minutes to 4pm waiting for broadcast to commence. Children programs such as Voltron, Super Ted, Muppet babies, Sesame street, Dodo the kid from outer space etc were aired during this time. After that programs like Speak out, Inter school debates, Story Land etc will follow suit.

From 7pm you will see programs like new masquerade, Third eye etc being aired.

Thursdays by 8pm were for soap operas like Checkmate, Fortunes, Behind the clouds, Pot of Life etc

9pm for network news. By this time, only my parents would usually be in the sitting room. We children would be bonding and having our own play time in the rooms, dining room or the verandah.

I really love and miss those years.

We move nonetheless.

Nta 2 channel 5 was the numero uno then. Channel 10 followed but usually boring then came gudugudu meje yaya mefa NTA 7. Well baba suwe and Feyi kogbon were the only interesting programs on channel 7 then maybe Nkan mbe.
All in all nta is virtually dead. They are a symptom of the disease that ails Nigeria. A refusal to change from doing things the old nonfunctional ways. The pictures are horrible. It's been decades I set my eyes on NTA .
They are a relic of a lost better forgotten age.

Channel 5 was our favourite as kids then, cartoons and kiddies programs ran till 7 when the news comes. Their programs were more enjoyable for kids and young at heart. They're only boring when they connect to the network service for news and magazine shows. Channel 10 was boring, they have some ok shows like quiz competitions which I actually enjoyed as someone who has always been into trivia. Then we have channel 7 the Yoruba channel, total horror for us kids who barely understand what they're saying. Sundays were especially awful for us because my mum must watch, "I show pepper", Baba wande series followed by Feyikogbon and Gboromiro back to back to back. We had to sit through it all till 6:30 when our Tales By Moonlight comes on. Then my elder sister decided to betray us by enjoying those Yoruba shows and started keenly watching and discussing them with our mum🙄.

Interesting times then, this cable TV and internet tv generation will never understand

AM EXPRESS AND co NTA ct, Take a step and WWTBAM were my favourite programmes then, NTA asaba and Onitsha Chanel 35 and Chanel 10.
