This calculation is based on current 1-bedroom average rental prices and assumes the worker saves 100% of their ₦70,000 monthly income, with no spending at all. It also does not account for future rent increases over the saving period. No one can save 100% of their salary unless you account for other sources of income. Even a hypothetical situation needs to be realistic for it to be taken seriously. |

thesicilian:What are you even saying? He is talking about affordability of a necessity with your income. We all know that nobody can save 100% of their income but is a basic necessity such as housing affordable for the common man earning a minimum wage in this government? What is the cheapest cost of rent for a 1 bedroom apartment? How long can it take one who earns 70k as minimum wage pay for it? Unless you are a Tinubu supporter or a rich person who doesn't rent, it is difficult to afford a decent accommodation with the state of things in Nigeria. |

obi4eze:It is not my business whether you're a "Tinubu supporter" or not, I'm not interested in your political affiliations. There's hardly any major city on earth where minimum wage earners can afford to rent a 1 bedroom apartment without having to save part of their income for many months. That's assuming you want a comfortable 1 bedroom apartment, with it's own toilet, kitchen and bathroom at least. But a minimum wage earner in Lagos should be looking for a single room, not comfort. There are many very standard single rooms you can get for between 10k - 20k per month, depending on your taste. Again, I don't think there's any major city on earth where a minimum wage earner lives in comfort. |

Most people actually on minimum wage in Lagos are either living with their parents, cohabitating with other minimum wagers, doing other legal or illegal hustle, or working as gatemen where they also get to sleep in for free. Lagos is not for the faint hearted, it's for brave hearts. |

That's why people turn to crime for survival. It's not our fault. It's the system that doesn't appreciate hardwork. |

The minimum wage earner will not eat abi, he will not pay bills, he will just collect 70k and start saving everything..... Minimum wage earner cannot afford anything without stealing and cutting corners...... |

That's for people that just insist on staying in Lagos. Lagos is a actually a crazy place. I don't just know what people see in Lagos. During this festive season, I spent about 3 hours travelling from Ile Ife to Lagos/Oshodi and I spent about another 4 hours within that same Lagos before I could get home. |

To afford a year rent or to build a 1 bedroom? By the way, you can't see minimum wage earners living in Ikoyi, Lekki, Victoria Island, Eko Atlantic city and other classy places on the Island. They only come there to work and go back to their houses at Surulere, Oworo, Gbagada, Ketu etc. The people living in those Ikoyi, VI and others are company executives, business owners, bank bosses and celebrities. Civil servants stay at Lagos Mainland. |

When God said be friitful n multiply, he didnt make your fruitfulness compulsory in an urban setting. Lagos is not by force. Thats why people live in Ota environs and work in island. Two or three LGAs from Ogun state should be integrated into Lagos and carefully developed to cushion future imbalance of residents/workplace ratio. |

Your analysis is not realistic. And you and I know that for a fact. No minimum wage earner in Nigeria can afford a rent in Eko Atlantic, Ikoyi, Victoria Island in 100years. In fact, plus Anywhere in Lekki in 50years. Now let me shock you! At 300,000 naira salary, it is absolutely impossible to afford any rent in Atlantic city, Ikoyi or Vi in hundred years. Stop being a motivational speaker and kiss reality. |
