I was shouting about the new minimum wage but many kept attacking me.

Instead of labour to fight for inflation and prices control, but they keep fighting for minimum wage, 80k that will soon be useless and equivalent to 25k
Countries make life better for it's citizens by increasing the purchasing power of money but Nigeria will decrease the purchasing power through excessive printing, taxation by the government then labour union who claim to fight for the rights of workers will demand more money added to the minimum wage to further decrease the value combined with money creation from every bank to bank transaction due to digitalization.
Nigeria is the only country that fights inflation without mentioning money supply, the government deceived the masses with excessive money outside circulation causing inflation rather than excessive money in circulation.

That N50 is stamp duty not Opay. Now the FG is adding another N50 to it. This time, the sender will be the one paying it.

It's obvious you know nothing about economics.

So by increasing minimum wages is the way out?

Do you know what it means by increasing MW in a diverse country like this?
u did not answer the question, who is to control prices and inflation?

Opay don't charge the sender, but the receiver, from next year, both the sender and receiver will pay N50.
Currently only the receiver pays the N50, from next year, the sender will start paying it,.
What it means is that if you are sending N10,000+ to your love ones, bank will charge a total of N100, N50 from u and N50 from them.
Example, if you want to send N10000 for something urgent, you have to have N10100, then you will send N10050, bank will deduct 50 from your account, when it reach the receiver, they will get N10,000 after bank have deducted another N50.
This charges is only for stamps duty, and other charges will be included during the transaction
You corn add your own misinformation join. Even the OP said the sender fee will be replacing the fee formerly paid by receiver. Abi where you get your own info from?

You don't think the shift will have an impact on the sender?

CodeTemplarr:
What is peculiar about N10,000+ in e-banking system that is justifying N50 flat fee?
This is the same pattern they used to loot Lagos via Apha-Beta Consulting.
The same amount of bandwith, processor resources, network resources, human resources and input needed for a N1,000 transfer is what is needed for a N10,000,000 transfer, so why did N50 flat fee had to creep in at N10,000+?

The pattern on ground reveals that money will be wasted. If not to pay idlers, build mosqies or do hajj, flyover in a low traffic spot.
They have been deducting this like forever. Now they want to start sending notifications.

If I am lying try this, check your brother, friend of any other person account balance then send 10K to the person, the person will receive 9,950 naira, that amount is already deducted and you won't see it except you check the new balance of the beneficiary account

The Electronic Money Transfer Levy (EMTL)
The most common form of "electronic stamp duty" encountered by the average Nigerian is the Electronic Money Transfer Levy (EMTL).

Current Status: As of the end of 2025, a one-off flat fee of ₦50 is charged on electronic receipts or transfers of ₦10,000 and above. This is currently deducted from the recipient's account by their bank or financial institution, which then remits the funds to the FIRS. Transfers between accounts owned by the same person within the same bank are exempt.

Upcoming Change (Effective Jan 1, 2026): The EMTL will be formally renamed to "Stamp Duties" under the Nigeria Tax Act 2025. The key change is that the ₦50 charge will shift from the recipient to the sender

On top their tax charade purportedly starting in January!

So persons like me will now be paying N100 per transaction since I rarely receive money from anybody locally. I mainly transfer money between my accounts. huh

These tax masters really mean Nigerians. God keeping us, I await the drama that may unfold in January.

The most annoying part is that they can't justify all these taxes and levies!

Read again. It seems the "major shift" part was confusing you. I believe what the writer was trying to convey there was that the sender will also now pay the same stamp duty that receiver paid previously.

Unsure? Read the introduction of the article; it stated that existing charges remained unchanged. The receiver stamp duty was an existing charge.
Re: New ₦50 Transfer Charge Quietly Set To Begin January 1 by MrCaesar: 11:20pm On Dec 27, 2025
I went to a different bank ATM to withdraw 10k, the withdrawal charge was 107 naira, this is apart from other charges from my bank. They said they will collect 100 naira for withdrawal from 20k and above in a different denomination bank, but they secretly pegged it at 10k without informing Nigerians. It made me wonder how we got here. This looks like total madness. The obsession to extort poor Nigerians of their money, when the government has nothing to offer, is just so alarming.

Attached is an email from GTCO.

The highlighted part aligns with my initial understanding of the policy.

The stamp duty isnt new
The stamp duty was renamed EMTL and was paid by the receiver.
EMTL has now been renamed again to Stamp duty and will be paid by the sender and not the receiver.

My point is that it was clear from the policy document but people do not read to understand. And we need to do a lot of that and not sensationalise everything the government says
