If you add the 20% tax, the time will double
You are one of those spreading this misinformation about the tax. A minimum wage earner is exempted from tax.

Person wan fast for 24years to fit afford 1 bed for Eko Atlantic 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Na to just go there village go they leave for family house.
LMAO! 🤣🤣

The human estimator who did that calculation must be a teenager/youth without responsibility cos I wonder how a family man with kids will save 100% of his salary, with other source(s) of income.

Grandiose delusions!

Lol... With no spending at all! grin grin grin

That means a person on minimum wage has to starve or leech off another person for years in order to afford an average apartment.

So, to cut the long story short... A minimum wage earner in Naija is not earning at all!

That's why many go for tenement popularly called "Face me I face you."

The truth is that if you want to increase your earnings, you have to learn a skill. If not a skill, learn how to hustle. You'd be shocked how much some of those boys who "bring customers" to market traders make.

You can assist people sell cars. There's estate agency.

What I am saying is that one should be proactive and not think he has no future due to a low paying job.

You'd be shocked at the poverty mentality many people have.

How long would it take a minimum wage earner to afford a 1-Bedroom Apartment in different parts of Lagos?

Eko Atlantic City — 24 years 11 months
Banana Island — 11 years 11 months
Ikoyi — 9 years 6 months
Victoria Island — 8 years 11 months
Lekki Phase I — 5 years 4 months
Lekki Phase II — 4 years 2 months
Ikeja — 3 years 10 months
Yaba — 2 years 7 months
Ajah — 2 years 5 months
Gbagada — 2 years 5 months
Surulere — 1 year 9 months
Apapa — 1 year 7 months
Ketu — 1 year 4 months
Shomolu — 1 year 4 months
Festac — 1 year 2 months
Oshodi — 1 year 0 months
Alimosho — 11 months
Agege — 11 months
Ajegunle — 11 months
Mushin — 11 months
Ojo — 9 months
Ikorodu — 8 months
Epe — 6 months
Badagry — 5 months

This calculation is based on current 1-bedroom average rental prices and assumes the worker saves 100% of their ₦70,000 monthly income, with no spending at all. It also does not account for future rent increases over the saving period.

Even in the most affordable area, a 1-bedroom apartment consumes 42% of a minimum-wage earner’s annual income.

That means nearly half of everything earned in a year goes to rent alone. That's before food, transport, healthcare, electricity, school fees, or emergencies.

The rate exposed the Author a supposed reputable outfit in terms of data.

Rating Shomolu rent higher than Festac. Shomolu that is below Mushin in terms of rent both for residential and commercial purposes.

Residential rent in Agege, Alimosho, Ketu and Oshodi are cheaper than Mushin and not the other way round.

Likewise rent in Surulere is higher than Ajah.. Even land in Surulere is more costly than Ajah and Gbagada. Land value in Mushin is higher than Ajah. This organization doesn't do diligence before putting out it's statistics

When God said be friitful n multiply, he didnt make your fruitfulness compulsory in an urban setting. Lagos is not be force. Thats why people live in Ota and work in island.

Two or three LGAs from Ogun state should be integrated into Lagos and carefully developed to cushion future imbalance of residents/workplace ratio.

Honestly, a family man earning salary with a take home pay of less than 1m can't buy a tokunbo car worth 12m.

What are you even saying? He is talking about affordability of a necessity with your income.

We all know that nobody can save 100% of their income but is a basic necessity such as housing affordable for the common man earning a minimum wage in this government? What is the cheapest cost of rent for a 1 bedroom apartment? How long can it take one who earns 70k as minimum wage pay for it?

Unless you are a Tinubu supporter or a rich person who doesn't rent, it is difficult to afford a decent accommodation with the state of things in Nigeria.
I believe he is simply saying the data is not realistic.

To afford a year rent or to build a 1 bedroom? By the way, you can't see minimum wage earners living in Ikoyi, Lekki, Victoria Island, Eko Atlantic city and other classy places on the Island. They only come there to work and go back to their houses at Surulere, Oworo, Gbagada, Ketu etc. The people living in those Ikoyi, VI and others are company executives, business owners, bank bosses and celebrities. Civil servants stay at Lagos Mainland.
Which minimum wage earner lives in oworo, or ketu? You even added Gbagada lmao. Is like you don't know how much they rent decent houses in those places you mentioned? It's in millions

Minimum wage earners live in ogijo after Ikorodu, gberigbe, iyana IBA, isawo after agric, elepe, mowe, Epe, simawa, oju ore, sango, lambe akute etc.that's where you can still get good houses at minimum wage level.

Single room with outside toilet/bathroom?
thesicilian:
It is not my business whether you're a "Tinubu supporter" or not, I'm not interested in your political affiliations.
There's hardly any major city on earth where minimum wage earners can afford to rent a 1 bedroom apartment without having to save part of their income for many months. That's assuming you want a comfortable 1 bedroom apartment, with it's own toilet, kitchen and bathroom at least.

But a minimum wage earner in Lagos should be looking for a single room, not comfort. There are many very standard single rooms you can get for between 10k - 20k per month, depending on your taste. Again, I don't think there's any major city on earth where a minimum wage earner lives in comfort.

People have been saying tinubu is wicked but to me an average Nigeria on the street is full of greed and wickedness.
Imagine bus driver and agbero are not reducing transport fair despite reduction in fuel prices?

The massez are not enjoying any fuel reduction.

Check air transport, tickets sold as high as 500k.

Omo, Transportation cost is now hell. May God help us in 2026. We can blame the government for not providing public transport system in many part of Lagos but the wickedness of an average Nigeria is mild blowing.
