Good evening my fellow Nairalanders.

On the 28th of December, I went to Access bank to request for a new ATM card. While waiting for my turn, another customer, an elderly man of around 50years reached out to me saying i should help him out with my powerbank so he can power his phone and set his mobile app of which i obliged. I gave him the powerbank, when the bank staff was attending to me; the old man left the banking with my powerbank.

I quickly remember and raised alarm. His form was later sort out and his phone number was called. He picked and said he won't bring the powerbank. He ended up blocking the staff number. I requested they give me his number so i can trace him. They refuse and said it's against their policy.

The powerbank is very costly. Pls what can i do get my property
Seriously if this happened then I'm ashamed for the man.

Report the matter officially to the bank. Just look for an hungry lawyer that can take 5k or write for you pro bono requesting for the cctv footage of the day and drag them that their customer in that bank dupe you on the floor of their bank, add them to the case, you will see how they will quickly get the man for you.

The bank is suppose to put a red flag on his account so it can draw him out to the bank..
the bank can not do that
If he wants it he should go through the court and police. It's best he leave it because it will cost more but his house is known.

Why disturbing yourself on the business of police. Just go to the nearest police station and file a report.
The man is definitely traceable, just follow the simple steps.
If police refused, just get a lawyer to sue both police and the bank jeje for aiding a criminal.

please ignore those asking you to let it go, it will only encourage the useless baba to keep going randomly stealing from other people, try as much as possible to get that stuff back, this whole thing is simple, involve police or court order to place pnd on the old thief account, bank will definitely release the number because the crime was committed within bank premises and they verify the crime

The bank staff attending to us knows I actually borrowed him my powerbank, cause he wanted to set up his mobile app after collecting his atm. It was when i was been attended to, that was when he left prior to my notice. So immediately i alerted the bank staff. She sort the man form and extracted his number cause it wasn't that long. They called him at first and ask him to come immediately for his atm card verification. He said he was close he is coming. I waited until around 3:45pm. They called him again and he said is that guy that he collected his powerbank still there abi? Then he cut the call. I waited again until after 4. I told the bank staff to pls give me his phone number. They said no. That i should come back on Tuesday they will reach him. So they said i should drop my contact details which i did. On Tuesday i went there again. They called him but he began blocking their numbers. I went to the a police station near by. They said the bank staff suppose give me his number since they are aware and the man also admitted he collected the powerbank. So they said i should write statement. And I'll also need court order and it will cost me money too i just left the police station cause i presume the stress won't be here

Only a court can force them to give out the number, unless the police has informal relationships in that bank nothing helpful will happen
An experienced Head of Operations will give out the phone number and nothing can happen from the old thief.

The bank officers goofed by not giving you the number. If they had given you the number, there is absolutely no risk there and nothing that the old thief can do. But of course, you have bank officers that are poorly trained and lacking in self conviction and confidence.

An experienced HOP will put a lien on his account , block or flag it as the case may be. Let him go and call his lawyer.

Simply approach a Lawyer who will bring a motion on notice before the court seeking to compel the bank to release the identity of the man in question following which you will will have a petition written to the police against him. You will, in the end have him prosecuted for fraudulent conversion et al Sorry about that. have a blessed 2026.

The bank can if the HOP knows what he is doing. What case do you think the old thief has?

Experience is lacking these days.
