Canada’s visa rejection rate is massive right now!!

You’re right.

Canada issued a large number of different visas in 2023 and early 2024. However, by late 2024 and early 2025, policies had changed.

Now they have tightened their immigration regulations and increased scrutiny of visa applications due to housing pressures, worries about visa abuse, and an increase in asylum claims from some temporary residents, particularly those with visitor visas.

Compliment of the season to you all. Please, I intend to process a Visitor Visa for my wife, and she will be going for a conference. My wife has no travel history. My question is, if she has a solid home tie, good sop, and strong proof of finance, what's her chances of getting approval? Putting into consideration that she has no travel history.

Her chances are very low. Many Nigerians have used the conference-visa route to enter Canada and then claim asylum or overstay, so this pathway is no longer trusted especially for applicants with no prior travel history to Europe or similar countries. She can still apply, but with Canada tightening immigration rules and Nigeria already listed among the top sources of visa abuse and asylum claims, approval is very unlikely.l wish her good luck

Your family sponsorship application is still within the typical processing timeframe. It should be at its final stage right now; they will likely reach out to you guys within the next 5 to 6 months.

Please add more context to your explanation. it will help us help you For example:

(1) What type of conference is she attending? is the conference directly related to her job ? eg If your wife is a doctor or works in the medical field, and the conference is a biotechnology or medical conference, then the purpose of travel makes sense.

(2) What do you mean by solid home ties?

(3) What makes her Statement of Purpose (SOP) strong?

(4) What qualifies as strong proof of funds? and how much does she make monthly (or saved) or the person sponsoring her make and who is sponsoring her?

Firstly rejection is at a all time high

That being said during the festive period, most people are either resting or strategizing for the coming year.

However, I am already seeing many so called “World Cup visa” offers circulating on Telegram groups, with agents trying to sell World Cup visa packages to Toronto and Vancouver.

Unfortunately, many people will fall prey to these schemes and end up with 5 year bans. It’s going to be interesting times next year.

This trend will likely increase next year, especially among people who are desperate to travel.

Goodmorning! Thanks for your response. I am actually still in the process of getting her registered for a conference. She works as a Lab assistant, and i intend getting her registered in a conference that's related to her field. Pls, kindly help if you know of One. For question 2-4, i know about them, i have done both study and visitor Canadian Visa for people before. So, I know how to put together a strong SOP, and documentation for her application. Just that I have not done this conference thing before. For her monthly salary you asked, she receives 570k monthly bcs she works in a drilling company. I intend to get necessary documents from the company she works with, and get them notarized as well. I am looking at sponsoring her or better still, route the sponsorship through her company. I am yet to decide on this.

Well, I wish you all the best. I do not have any conference of that nature, nor do I do anything related to conferences. Please be very careful when using “conference” as the stated purpose of the visit.

A salary of ₦570,000 is not considered very high by IRCC, so your company would need to sponsor her visa. Make sure the company has all the necessary details and sufficient funds to support the sponsorship. You can sponsor both her and your company.

Money is very important.

Let me share some context: in 2024, 1.95 million visitor visa applications were denied. These denials accounted for 54% of all visitor visa applications meaning more than half of applicants were rejected. In 2023, the refusal rate was 40%, so that’s a 14% increase in just one year.

I am still waiting for the 2025 numbers, but I expect the refusal rate may be around 70%. It is increasingly difficult to get a visitor visa under the pretense of attending a conference, unless you have a close family member who is a permanent resident or citizen. or you have Money alot of it or have an active US Visa

Wishing you all the best.

Congratulations, and thank you for sharing your timeline from start to finish.

However, it’s always helpful to provide context so people can fully understand your profile.

Having a valid U.S. visa often gives a visa applicant a higher chance of obtaining a Canadian visa, which is why sharing the full context of your profile is important.

Someone without a USA visa ( Most especially) or UK visa timeline is not a reality with yours that's what we are trying to say and sharing your timeline without that context doesn't help them ( Most people)

🤔 So if I don’t have a UK/US visa/ travel history, I can’t get a Canadian visit visa? 😞

You can apply, but currently it’s like a camel passing through the eye of a needle because the rejection rate for Canadian visitor visas is extremely very high!

you can but you need extra work on your profile and Alot of $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Current Vistor visa rejection rate

2023 was 40%

2024 was 54%

2025 projected to be about 70% I am waiting for IRCC to release the numbers

having a UK/US visa/ travel history or visa ( Mostly USA visa) reduces your visa rejection and makes the visa process quick

PLS I need a urgent guidance/hint as regards this. I have someone who has been trying to fill his visitor visa application on the IRCC website and having issues. after filling the form and validated it, the form could still not be uploaded. is anyone facing such? webform filled and Adobe updated to latest version as advised by their response and still unable to proceed to uploading a validated form. what do u think could be done. PLS

The issue is not the certificate warning; the form usually fails to upload because it was not opened and validated in Adobe Acrobat Reader DC (desktop), the barcode page did not generate, the file was saved or renamed incorrectly, uploaded to the wrong slot, the solution is to re-download the form, open it only in Adobe Reader DC, validate until the barcode appears, save (not “Save As”), and upload immediately to the correct document slot

1. Does she have a relative in Canada that she can visit ? If yes, let the relative send her an invitation letter and attach he permit (study, work, PR or Citizenship)

2. She can just apply as a tourist. In this case, she can book her flight itinery and make hotel reservation to cover the entire duration of her proposed stay.

Above all, know that the decision to approve or deny the application is in the hands of the Visa Officer.
