Yet-to-be-ascertained worth of property was destroyed in the early hours of Thursday, the first day of January, following a fire outbreak at Trano Rentals Hotel, Isuaniocha, in Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

This was confirmed in a statement made available to journalists by the Anambra State Fire Service, containing the details of the outbreak, which was also the first officially reported fire outbreak in the state in the year 2026.

According to the Fire Service, it received a distress call at about 2:23am on Thursday, January 1, 2026, alerting it to a raging fire at the hotel premises, consequent upon which it mobilized and deployed its officers to the scene to bring the situation under control.

“The Service received a distress call at about 0223 hours (2.23AM) on Thursday, 1st January 2026, reporting a fire incident at the hotel premises.

“Firefighters were immediately deployed to the scene and promptly commenced firefighting operations,” it stated.

According to the Fire Service, preliminary investigations revealed that the fire was triggered by sparks from faulty fire walls, which ignited the blaze.

It added that the inferno affected a six-bedroom bungalow hotel complex and destroyed several valuable properties within the premises.

The statement also noted that the swift and professional response of the Anambra State Fire Service personnel played a crucial role in containing the fire and preventing it from spreading to adjoining buildings and nearby structures, which could have worsened the incident.

According to the Fire Service, firefighting operations at the scene successfully concluded at about 4:00am, after which the crew withdrew from the scene, having fully extinguished the inferno.

The Fire Service, however, expressed relief that no casualties were recorded during the incident, as all occupants and nearby residents were reported to be safe.

It further re-issued its earlier advisory, urging property owners and residents to clear bushes within and around their premises and to ensure regular electrical and safety inspections, particularly during the dry season, to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The Service further reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state, while further encouraging members of the public to always observe basic fire safety measures and promptly report fire outbreaks for timely intervention.
