Re: Help Please: How Can I Retrieve My Powerbank. by Originalsly: 6:44pm On Jan 01
Get the Police to make the bank staff report to station to get the number. The point is to embarrass the clerk .... she should've given you the number...it is not the bank policy to support theft.

Bank can't put red flag on the account, 1, it was not a transaction 2, not without a court order
Involving police also can't do much on the bank without a valid court order to produce a customer's details.

This leaves you with, either you let it go as a loss or go the short cut. Shut cut with some bank staff and pay the police. Who can easily use other numbers to track the thief down.
Thats why e good to Dey sought staff for bank cause e get y…I will get the man’s info for free if it happened to me..

The man is heartless! You did him a favor and this is how he paid you back. Unfortunately this makes one think twice about helping others out.
I’d say you just let it go, and consider this as lesson learnt.
What lesson? A lesson not to render help again?

NO!!

A 50 something year old man stole your power bank? 🥱🥱🥱

Check back with the bank in a couple of days and ask if someone returned the item to the bank.🥱🥱🥱
If he wanted to returned it, he would have done that instead of blocking their calls.

How bad is the power supply in your area? ‘Cause I only buy power banks to give out as gift o, I’ve never needed to use any.
I don't know, but the fact that you have a stable light in your area doesn't mean Nigeria as whole have a good, stable light and the fact that you never needed to use any doesn't mean other don't need it.

Which sue?
He has a right to sue that an unlawful lien was placed on his account though. However, the bank has a reason to justify the lien too. The only problem being that they may not be willing to go the whole hog for the customer.
Getting the police involved will shorten the process and if he is brought to the bank to see the CCTV footage himself, the police will shakara him there and then and threaten to be a witness against him in court.

At the time the owner asked for his number, the bank faced absolute no risk in releasing the number to him.
On the Law as it stands today in Nigeria I do not agree with you. The Law firmly is that a bak can neither place a PND on a customer’s account or reveal details of his account to a third party without a court order and that is regardless of his signed consent in his account opening documents.

Good evening my fellow Nairalanders.

On the 28th of December, I went to Access bank to request for a new ATM card. While waiting for my turn, another customer, an elderly man of around 50years reached out to me saying i should help him out with my powerbank so he can power his phone and set his mobile app of which i obliged. I gave him the powerbank, when the bank staff was attending to me; the old man left the banking with my powerbank.

I quickly remember and raised alarm. His form was later sort out and his phone number was called. He picked and said he won't bring the powerbank. He ended up blocking the staff number. I requested they give me his number so i can trace him. They refuse and said it's against their policy.

The powerbank is very costly. Pls what can i do get my property
Leave it for him
Let him go n die with it

Releasing the number at that point in time constitutes no legal error for the bank. The bank can deny they never gave it to him. There are a thousand and one places the customer could have gotten the number if the bank wants to argue.

The bank can PND on the account with an excuse as simple as " Go to your branch for documentation" and that can be well defended.

It amazes me the way people think it is easier to sue banks and win especially with filmsy issues as this.

I have said it in another post, a brutal branch manager will lure the old thief to the bank, invite him to the office, get the plain police officer on duty invited alongside him and show him the CCTV footage. The kind slap that will land on his face will make him to forget there are professionals called lawyers.

The question no one as answered is, will issue be handled the same way if the innocent customer is a sibling of the Branch Manager?

Call any soldier you know and let them request for him to show up at the barracks. If he refuses, set him up with a female and when he shows up, do the needful. Make him young again

The bank staff attending to us knows I actually borrowed him my powerbank, cause he wanted to set up his mobile app after collecting his atm. It was when i was been attended to, that was when he left prior to my notice. So immediately i alerted the bank staff. She sort the man form and extracted his number cause it wasn't that long. They called him at first and ask him to come immediately for his atm card verification. He said he was close he is coming. I waited until around 3:45pm. They called him again and he said is that guy that he collected his powerbank still there abi? Then he cut the call. I waited again until after 4. I told the bank staff to pls give me his phone number. They said no. That i should come back on Tuesday they will reach him. So they said i should drop my contact details which i did. On Tuesday i went there again. They called him but he began blocking their numbers. I went to the a police station near by. They said the bank staff suppose give me his number since they are aware and the man also admitted he collected the powerbank. So they said i should write statement. And I'll also need court order and it will cost me money too i just left the police station cause i presume the stress won't be here
