Why is it that in trying to learn Igbo language, instead of being taught, you be faced with insults? I have tried and tried to learn my mother tongue which is Igbo language and instead of my fellow brothers and sisters to teach me small small, that's how they will throw insults at you saying "you are not ashamed you can't speak your language...tufia!", as if it was ingrained in my DNA to speak the Igbo language. Brothers and sisters we are the architects of our own cultural demise and the more we do this, the more our language goes extinct. Look at other tribes. Yoruba people will teach you at the spot. Sometimes if you are in their mist one person will explain (se alaye) the discussion to you. They make it interesting and enticing to learn. Unfortunately I never picked the language being that I was thinking the same will be for me when I got to the east but in the end when I got there I faced backlash. A tribes strength is known by the language flexibility and the number of people speaking the language. Look at Hausa for instance. Everything has an Hausa translation which is good. Which means the language is open ended and is given room to create new words but my own tongue often add English words to their sentences. "Onye buru my container". "As a matter of fact mua but the highest self made millionaire n'eba". And it goes on. Please tell me why it is so? |

I can't quite understand why you choose to learn Igbo from people who insult you. Are they paying you to learn perhaps, or are they the only Igbo teachers in the world so you can't go find teachers elsewhere? You seriously need to be more responsible for your own learning, is what I think, instead of trying to take your learning from those who seem to be doing everything so you don't learn Igbo. |
