What he is doing is gathering intel, so when he reaches the hospital or health center, he will be more knowledgeable on deciding any suggestions that the doctor or pharmacist comes up with.

Yea, he is not the doctor, but its not always good to walk into a health facility blindly(without ideas surrounding your illness).

And acquiring insights for anything will make you well prepared to chest anything when you go meet these health practitioners.

It is not a must for him to have an idea of what is wrong with him health wise.
They will run a comprehensive test on him.
The results of the test will give them a direction and diagnose him of his ailments

Had a similar issue some months ago. Especially on my elbows. I used *calamine lotion* and it cleared up within a week or so

it itches you mostly at night right. This is scabies. Get an anti scabies cream and apply. Within 2 days you’ll see the difference. Also see a doctor, you might need some injections

Check very well please, are you currently on medication? Precisely on a combination of Antibiotic and any Vitamins...if the answer is yes, kindly quit it, observe and visit a Pharmacy... if no do well to visit a hospital
