DoTheNeedful:And what do the citizens / tax payers get in return? Stable electricity Good roads Quality health care system (which btw has stopped our leaders from going abroad) Stable economy We have also over the years seen accountability and transparency in the manner and way loans and taxes are being collected and utilized. |

Aba Women's Riot of 1929: A Turning Point https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ddDdh1sxztw The Aba Women’s Riot of 1929 happened mainly because of unfair taxes and the extension of colonial authority over women. The British tried to impose direct taxes and give warrant chiefs more control, but market women in Aba protested since they had no voice in government decisions. Tens of thousands of women joined strikes and demonstrations, even attacking colonial offices, to resist being taxed and controlled unfairly. The revolt forced the British to rethink taxation and local administration, making it a turning point in Nigeria’s colonial history and showing the strength of women’s collective action. The people are very comfortable with corruption. In the UK and US, politicians who raise taxes can lose elections because voters hold them accountable, but in Nigeria, taxes are 🇳🇬

The new rule does exempt annual incomes ≤ ₦800k from personal income tax, but that threshold (≈ ₦67k/month) still leaves many workers on the edge. Above that, a progressive tax applies only to income beyond ₦800k, not your whole salary. Facts help clarity. |

APC government full of liers, they have started explaining and defending the tax system from wicked and heartless regime of Tinubu. When the lmplementation starts you see a different thing entirely. 2027 even Satan himself will join hand to remove Tinubu. |

Removal of fuel subsidy is enough tax. Tinubu is a taskmaster. Nigerians should unite and chase away the tax master by 2027 |

helinues:This is very TRUE. In several podcasts and interviews, Taiwo Oyedele, the brilliant head of the Presidential Tax Reforms CLEARLY stated this same fact that if you are earning less than N100,000 monthly, you will NOT be taxed based on PAYE. Taiwo Oyedele said this means that about 90% of Nigerians will NOT pay PAYE. ALSO VAT has been totally removed on medication, some food items, VAT removed on baking items for bread making and he said the price of bread will start dropping from January 1, 2026. There is NO tax increase and multiple TAXES have been cut off! Price monitoring MUST ALSO be introduced BECAUSE some Nigerians are notorious for NOT bringing down the cost of food items and commodities but will quickly increase the price of food items when any little increase in petrol is made. Yet, we have seen highly IRRESPONSIBLE people working for those opposition parties such as some Obi supporters in Nigeria spreading massive disinformation online and offline claiming that tax has been increased which is FALSE. The Federal and State governments in Nigeria too are very responsible for allowing disinformation and fake news instead of launching punitive actions against the spread of FAKE news being spread deliberately due to hatred. To me, this is the BEST ever tax policy ever implemented in Nigerian history. Some people are trying to sabotage the current Nigerian government yet the man who is the current President of Nigeria likes to annoying play the role of a Mr. Nice guy! These FAKE news can destroy his Goverment if NOT checkmated urgently by punishing those spreading the fake stories under the recently signed 2025 Cyber Crimes Act. I don't know what his so-called supporters who are online and offline are doing... They are NOT telling him to take action about these highly IRRESPONSIBLE fake news circulating online. |

DoTheNeedful:The reason why people are skeptical about this tax thing is because the people don't trust the government of the day to utilise the revenue that will accrue from the taxation, and you can't say that our suspicion is misplaced. This I think is the real issue. |

So helinues please enlighten me, me earning ordinary 120k per month which is not even enough to carter for my needs monthly, with zero govt incentives will be taxed. The way you people defend rubbish really amaze me fr, any small thing you would want to compare Nigeria with other states forgetting that there are many incentives and palliatives the govt provide for their people over there. How many people in Nigeria are earning below 800k per annum cuz even minimum way is 70k which is 840k per annum, so who really are they tax exempt ? |

These data boys like the OP, filled the social media space deceiving people about the benefits that come with the removal of subsidy. It turned out to be a major fraud funnel. Now they have come with this one, and when the reality starts hitting hard, they'll be nowhere to be found all because of 30k a month. Shameless buffoons To put things in perspective, 100k a month can hardly cater to a family of 4 in the present Nigeria, but they are taking a whole 15% off it as tax. To make matters worse, this money will be squandered in funding the lavish lifestyle of this thieving government, no single improvement in the standard of living of Nigerians. Nigerians pay for their own electricity, water, healthcare, security, education and even waste disposal. Absolutely benefiting nothing from the government, instead the FG is now looking to deep their hands into people's accounts. Nigeria is a crime scene Good luck to Nigeria |

helinues:what you don't understand that #800k has no value, break #800k down to daily that's #2,200, you will understand that those picking dirt on the ground will earn more than #800k annually, which means government will collect tax even from the poorest person no matter what. Tinubu is a scammer |

[quote author=DoTheNeedful post=137987463]You are just being overly critical. A minimum wage earner earns 840,000 in a year. Based on the new tax law, the 40,000 on top of the 800,000 is taxed at 15%, which means that a minimum wage earner pay 6,000 naira per year (500 per month) in tax. A minimum wage earner pays more than this in the old tax regime. Many of you that criticize do so either maliciously or due to ignorance. Our tax collection rate in Nigeria is one of the poorest even in Africa. The understanding of tax by Nigerians terrible. Many of you need to get it into your heads that tax payment is vital for any society to thrive. [/quote Many of you who think you're trying to enlighten people supporting the PBAT administration are only mischievous by 99%. Now, those countries you claim have higher tax compared to Nigeria with a low poor tax, do they suffer from no electricity supply to their household buildings and business premises, do they provide portable drinking water for themselves by themselves, do they contribute money to repair damaged NEPA poles and transformers, do they provide private security in their neighborhood for themselves by themselves, do they construct and maintain drivable roads by themselves for themselves and lastly how much is their acceptable living wage earning annually for the least paid duly legal worker ? |

A RATIONAL HUMAN BEING WILL SAY IT THE WAY ITS AT ALL TIME.(Critical and commend when they do wrong and right) THE POSTER OF THIS ARTICLE, IS TALKING ABOUT THE CATEGORIES OF THOSE WHO WILL PAY AND EXEMPTED,SO, HOW HAS HE PRAISING GOVT IN HIS ARTICLE? Meanwhile, is even good for data boys, because they are taken stipends to do their assignments and not bittered about it, for your case, you are just punishing yourself all days and nights from bitterness. |

stokfrick:The thread is not about whether minimum wage is okay or not. Many of us would very gladly rant over the poor minimum wage if a thread is created for that. But the point of this thread is to simply educate people to know that any person earning 800k would not be affected. And if your earnings is minimum wage standard, only 800k of your annual pay gets the new exemption. |
