Anthony Joshua’s Driver Charged To Court, Granted Bail by SlavaUkraini(op): 12:56am On Jan 03
The magistrate court in Sagamu, Ogun state, has granted bail to Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, the driver of the crashed Lexus sports utility vehicle (SUV) involving Anthony Joshua, the former world heavyweight boxing champion.

The Cable understands that Kayode was charged on Friday by the police on a four-court charge bordering on dangerous driving causing death, reckless and negligent driving, driving without due care and attention, and driving without a valid national driver’s licence.

The driver was granted N5 million bail with two sureties. He was remanded in the correctional facility pending fulfillment of the bail conditions.

Oluseyi Babaseyi, Ogun police spokesperson, said the case was adjourned to January 20, 2026, for trial.

“Update: The Ogun State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that the driver of the Lexus SUV involved in the Anthony Joshua accident case, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode (male), aged 46, was charged to the Sagamu Magistrate Court today, 2nd January, 2026 and the case has been adjourned to 20th January, 2026,” Babaseyi wrote.

Last Monday, the Lexus Jeep conveying Joshua, a former world heavyweight boxing champion, and two of his close associates crashed into a stationary truck around the Sinoma area near Sagamu, Ogun state.

The former boxing champion and three other passengers were reportedly travelling from Lagos to Sagamu when the SUV they were in collided with a stationary truck.

While Joshua survived the incident with minor injuries, his close associates — Kevin Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami — died

Ghami was Joshua’s long-time friend and his strength and conditioning coach, while Latif served as his personal trainer.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) said its preliminary findings attributed the motor accident to excessive speed and wrongful overtaking.

However, the Ogun police command said a tyre burst was responsible for the crash.

On Wednesday, the boxer was discharged from Lagoon Hospital, Ikoyi, after treatment for the injuries sustained. Subsequently, the driver was arrested by the police.

How is that an offence? Since when did parking off the expressway become an offence?

Charging him is already injustice. It is an accident. Yes he was wreck full but that is the meaning of an accident. The liability he has is to compensate the families of the dead and repair/replace Joshua's vehicle.

From the extreme right even, the part that is on the bush. He must have been been overtaking 2 vehicles when he faced the truck because he felt the car could do it
Re: Anthony Joshua’s Driver Charged To Court, Granted Bail by Mikuni(m):
Nigeria does not have an effective system to curb over speeding. Our road officials and police are only interested in your money.

I don't think the driver was at fault. And I don't think the vehicle was in bad shape. I'd rather believe the road conditions didn't enhance safe driving.

Most annoying thing is Anthony Joshua and his colleagues might have been warned, probably in dreams before the accident.

Be vigilant, stay away from alcohol and other vices that block your spiritual monitor. Clear your mind and be sensitive to warnings.

FRSC: excessive speed.
Police: tyre burst.
Court: ₦5m bail.

Excessive speed, tyre burst, who we go believe? Who is in charge of accident investigation?

Your first sentence na rubbish talk.
The truck has been there for weeks.
It was still there 3days after the accident.
If the truck wasn't there, they would've had space to maneuver.

The Truck driver parked on a distress lane which is fine for a broken down vehicle. For me it is just a reckless driving.

Reckless driving, plus bad road plus, poor traffic and speed control system in Nigeria caused their death.

I honestly wouldn't even blame the driver. Which sane driver would drive recklessly knowing the caliber of people in his vehicle??
Re: Anthony Joshua’s Driver Charged To Court, Granted Bail by BigYash: 5:55am On Jan 03
This life..if the driver had carried them to their destination safe, nobody go care to know the driver's name and age o.. But as things went south now, them don hold am for brokos, forgetting that he is also facing trauma at the moment. Dude wasted two people, ended a promising career of brother J. He is not going to forgive himself anytime soon. And now, them don put am for prison.

AJ for just forgive am..

The useless road safety and police talking now,why didn't they tow the truck, while it was stationed there in the first place?

The truck has a right to be there whether 1 hour or 1 year.

If it's like that then you should blame Joshua for buying the SUV instead of a Beatle, because if it was a Beatle now, the driver would not have tried overtaking at all.

There was no traffic on that spot. It is because the driver knows the car is too much so he blasted it only that it did not work that day. It has worked on other days but not that day

The truck did not do anything to anybody. It was on its own. Funny, you did not say that they should tow the house a truck ran into sometime last year.

Use your head next time. There's nothing wrong in parking a truck properly undecided. The shoulder is wide

If the truck wasn't there, atleast the lives of those guys would have been spared. Like they said he was overtaking, probably he felt he could pass in-between the truck and the car he was overtaking. Now use your common sense here,if it's still working o. Now imagine the truck wasn't there. What do you think would have happened?
Re: Anthony Joshua’s Driver Charged To Court, Granted Bail by baby124: 6:11am On Jan 03
Let’s all remember that if the two that died were wearing seat belts, they would have survived too. If someone is driving fast and you are in the car, remember to wear seatbelt.

If the truck was not there that SUV may have somersaulted. The truck was off the road. He was somehow driving so recklessly he drove off the road to go and hit the truck. The driver also has been found not to have a valid drivers license. I talk am!
Re: Anthony Joshua’s Driver Charged To Court, Granted Bail by Inspirer1:
This is probably the Scenario that played out for someone who have driving experience on that road.

I believe he was on the left lane of the section of that road facing Ibadan, with a vehicle ahead of him, he decided to overtake the vehicle, steers right (against the rule of overtaking on the left), the vehicle ahead of him also steers right, probably abruptly, he wasn't expecting such and subconsciously steers further right to avoid hitting the vehicle from the rear, but was met with a stationery truck, tried steering back (left) to avoid hitting it but was too late (you'll observe there was a major impact on the right side of the SUV, probably where the 2 guys that died were seated).
All these happened at high speed within seconds, vehicles move at high speed on that road.

NOTE: High speed DOES NOT EQUATE to over-speeding. That you're moving at high speed does not imply you're over-speeding. On that road, 90km/h can be regarded as high speed but not over-speeding.

Overspending couple with just 5 seconds of inpatient.
Exactly this kind of accident happened in Ekpoma last December between a stationary truck, A moving Dangote truck and two Lexus cars.
3 students died on a spot due to overspending and impatient.

But I think if the truck wasn't there, chances of the driver not killing those guys won't have been zero. Because he was coming from Lagos with same speed, and he didn't hit anything.I am sure you have not seen this elites convoys on high way driving. That is how convoy drive reckless in Nigeria.Again I won't blame the driver, judging from that angle that he didn't have a valid driver's license. Where is AJ's team in all of this? Who hired the driver and why he was driving reckless why didn't the occupants in the vehicle caution him? AJ should free that guy, even though he acted smart by dodging the truck from his own side.. Cux he was supposed to join those guys from the impact..
