Rabiu Kwankwaso In Talks to join ADC - ThisDay by nairalandkachy1(op): 11:07am On Jan 03
As preparations for the 2027 elections gradually gather momentum and following the defection of his Governor, Abba Yusuf, along with most members of the Kano State House of Assembly to the All Progressives Congress (APC), former Kano State Governor and leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Alhaji Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, is weighing the option of teaming up with former Vice President and 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, and the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate and former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

While his political structure appears to be moving to the APC, Kwankwaso, THISDAY gathered is in talks with the ADC about joining the coalition party along with members of the Kwankwasiyya movement, who are his loyal supporters.

Sources told THISDAY that quiet negotiations are already underway as the politicians explore the possibility of forming a united front ahead of 2027 elections, even as strong indications emerged that the Governor of Kano State, Abba Yusuf, the only NNPP-controlled State is defecting to the APC on Monday.

Governor Yusuf’s planned defection to the APC has reportedly been opposed by Kwankwaso and has sparked sharp disagreement within the Kwankwasiyya movement.

Sources close to the Governor Yusuf disclosed that Vice President, Kashim Shettima; APC National Chairman Yitwalda Nentawe, former governor of the State, Abdullahi Ganduje, along with the state chairman of the party, Abdullahi Abbas, are expected at a brief ceremony on his defection into the ruling party in Abuja.
If the talks between Atiku, Obi and Kwankwaso succeed, it could dramatically reshape opposition politics and alter the country’s political math.

Atiku, Obi and Kwankwaso came second, third and fourth in the 2023 presidential election.

But while the ruling party projects confidence with 28 Governors in its fold currently, an emboldened opposition is quietly rebuilding, betting that public frustration could reset the balance of power.

Obi had on Wednesday defected to ADC with his supporters, opposition leaders and some opposition National Assembly and State Assembly lawmakers.

Obi joins the likes of Atiku, David Mark, Aminu Tambuwal, Emeka Ihedioha, Rauf Aregbesola, Nasir El-Rufai, Rotimi Amaechi, Abubakar Malami, among others, in their quest to win the 2027 elections.

A chieftain of the ADC, Dr. Ladan Salihu, yesterday, said Obi joining the ADC has altered Nigeria’s opposition landscape and has positioned the party as a formidable challenger to the ruling APC.

Also yesterday, the APC further tightened its dominance, as Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang formally defected to the ruling party.

These emerged as the PDP yesterday said while its immediate concern was to ensure that all legal issues concerning its leadership are addressed, the opposition must agree to work together to defeat the ruling party.

This man would have been the vice president of Nigeria now has it been he humbled himself to deputize Obi. Anyway, It is never late to join ADC the winning team.

If this happens, Tinubu can as well kiss his 2027 dreams goodbye. Having the 36 state governors in his corner will be no match for the combined trio of Obi, Kwankwaso and Atiku. I will call them the three musketeers. These are the second, third and fourth candidates in the last election that Tinubu won by a tiny margin. Tinubu went behind Kwankwaso's back to lure his governor to the APC in the middle of negotiations. Kwankwaso will have an axe to grind with the master of backstabbing.

See eh, forget the governors defection, if the north can vote the way Igbo does, by not listening to their leaders, and instead vote base on performance, Tinubu will be defeated before 11 am on the election day.

Lol!

Agbadorians will find themselves in intensive care units today 🤣.

With this, it means Obi/Kwankwaso is still a possibility in 2027.

Kwankwaso must have realized his foolishness in 2023 by refusing to be running mate to Peter Obi and is ready to grab it with his 2 arms this time around.

Alternatively, this could be the Kwankwasiyya Movement splitting themselves into two. One in APC and the other in ADC. So that whichever side that wins, they will be good. Just my thoughts.

This is another theory that's been postulated by some. Abba Gida might just be decamping to take advantage of the largesse that Tinubu is sharing and to neutralize his oppositions in the person of Ganduje, Gawuna and Barau in Kano. Kwankwaso on the other hand, will pitch his tents with the ADC in order not to put all eggs in one basket. Tinubu's betrayal of allies is beginning to cost him. Kwankwaso doesn't trust him to keep his words.

If this happens.. APC should just forget about the next elections and just hand over to ADC before election day grin

Be specific with the word “Notherners” .. North Central has independent mind..

Even the core north sometimes vote against a sitting governor, Infact in most cases..

It was Buhari they were listening to, not their governors.. Now Buhari is out, let’s see how it goes

Dey play. Ask anyone from Plateau how they are taking Muftwang's defection. He might not be returning if ADC plays their cards right in Plateau. Even the APC folks are not happy in the state because many careers have been neutralized by his move.

@Gotocourt, abi I lie?

Only the governors in APC can deliver for Tinubu before 10am on election day.

My bad. You're correct. The Northcentral and the Southwest (yes, Tinubu's SW) are the most independent minded voters in the country. Votes will be split in this two regions.

Lol. You sound defeated. Who is Governor Abba without Kwankwaso? Does he have any structure of his own? Lessons will be learnt. The ADC still expects Kwankwaso to decamp to the APC though, we have planned for that contingency. His defection to the ADC will just be an added bonus but a very pleasant one, nonetheless.

And how will ADC play their cards right? By presenting an Islamic extremist like Atiku Abubakar as presidential candidate? Trust me, ADC won’t even get 20% of total vote cast in Plateau state in 2027.

The fear of the MM ticket is gone. The good people of plateau state led by their governor have seen the clear commitment of the Tinubu led administration to fight the Fulani herdsmen crisis and also give lots of opportunities to the previously marginalized northern Christians. They won’t throw all these away to vote back another Christian hating born to rule Fulani man who will give state backing to Fulani militia back into Aso Rock.

Lol. Says the person running on muslim-muslim ticket. Will Tinubu have won without 5.6m votes of the "Islamic extremists"? If yes, tell him to replace Shettima with a christian. Atiku and Islamic extremism can never be used in the same sentence. If anything, he has always been a victim of his liberalism in the muslim North, but not in 2027! You're cornered! Give up.

No self-respecting Christian on the Plateau or in the middlebelt will see a balanced ticket under the ADC and still vote for Tinubu’s muslim-muslim ticket. We will all learn politics together.

No southeast APC governor can deliver for Tinubu in 2027, especially when obi is on the ballot.

Then you don't know Kano. The average kanarwa doesn't always kiss the status quo without strong convictions.
A very weak Ganduje who was at his lowest point with Buhari refusing to endorse him and some APC elements like El-Rufai working against him still defeated Kwakwanso and his candidate in 2019. Now, an incumbent governor Yusuf with the backing of Ganduje, Federal might and APC structure will crush Kwakwanso who is now at his weakest point. Nobody wants to associate with that arrogant and greedy character again.

Lol. From where to where? Lies won't take you anywhere. After his dollar-stuffing video, Buhari still went to Kano and raised Ganduje's hand, drawing anger and condemnation from Kanawa. How did Elrufai work against Ganduje? Do you admit he was that strong? Keep spinning narratives. Few months ago, you were jubilating the sack of Ganduje as APC chairman and the impending defection of Kwankwaso to APC but now, you have settled for Abba and Ganduje is finally strong once again. Masters of use and dump. Don't be surprised if Ganduje himself works against you in the presidential elections. He does not forgive.

What should we say to the victims of the Owo church massacre and to Olu Falae whom Tinubu undermined their pains by asking, "Where are the cows?". We know he did it in order not to anger his base, the "Islamic extremists" for the sake of votes.

Atiku is not yet president but they are already doing that and opening new fronts in Kogi and Kwara under Tinubu's muslim-muslim watch.
