can't remember the last time I went to the bank, electronic banking is faster and more convenient and can be cheaper when you factor the cost of transportation. |

Nobody uses the physical bank again. We do things online now including shopping. Very soon, shops, malls and markets will be affected. Many physical Offices will close. There will be a time in life we will just wake up and start pressing phone from morning till night. |

Na true talk my brother! See as dem just dey shut branch up and down because dem only dey look for wetin dem go gain from us to collect our money, charge us anyhow, and pack our savings go give big men for Lagos. But if bank wan survive for community, e no suppose be only "deposit and withdraw" matter. Dem for dey inside our meeting, hear our development idea, support small business wey dey here, and even grant loan for community project. But for Nigeria, na so so "collect and go" dem sabi. If bank become place wey person fit walk in, share better plan for area, and get real support, dem for no need close shop because PoS don show bank for don turn to "community transformer," not just "money warehouse." |

I graduated from university in 2010, there was nothing like POS withdrawal anywhere in Nigeria even at that time, you guys just lie anyhow destroying the country... |

There's absolutely no need for private banks. The deregulation of the banking sector was one of the biggest mistakes to have ever been conceived and is the number 1 driver of inflation and money laundry. And to think most if not all these banks are now operated under fractional reserve banking that allows them to draw money from the central bank (our money) far above that in their vaults (still our money) and loan back to both the government and the populace at medieval Shylock loan rates tells you why we have a double digit lending rate hovering at room temperature ranges . With such a high disparity in lending rates compared to what they pay as interests to depositors, you should not be wondering why we have one of the highest year on year inflation rates. The Central Bank should rethink theor policy towards merchant banks and limit them strictly to banking transactions . The CBN already has several subsidiaries like Bank of Agriculture, Bank of Industry and NIRSAL that ought to replace the Shylock banks as lenders. The digital platforms have shown they can provide effective banking transactions far better than the inept conventional banks and have so far shown they are more transparent and more responsive to their customer base. The CBN should empower these digital banks with same fractional lending tools to serve SMEs lending as well as for soft consumer loans. A scenario were bank executives are the highest salaried earners and draw huge sums as end of year bonuses while doing next to nothing but exploit the system while serving corrupt politicians to launder money should come to an end. Bankers, Lawyers, Journalists and Medical Practioneers (in this order) are the bane of any nation and must be stripped of any professional and outstanding role in any nation if that nation must survive. |

| Re: Banks Shut 229 Branches by Offpoint1: 9:28am On Jan 04 |
Honestly can't remember last I visited bank... Since 2020 when I stopped using atm card. Most people visit banks these days for complaints and not transactions |
| Re: Banks Shut 229 Branches by DomPerignon: 9:28am On Jan 04 |
lavylilly:And 70-80% of banking hall staff are contract workers so the exploitation by these rogue entities affects even their own staff. Other than Union and First Bank , every other bank treats a vast majority of their staff as slaves. |
| Re: Banks Shut 229 Branches by giacomogiovanni: 9:29am On Jan 04 |
Brendaniel:That person is an APC supporter. Tinubu has collected their brains and used it to collect loan. |
| Re: Banks Shut 229 Branches by DomPerignon: 9:34am On Jan 04 |
femi4:The banks are the one hoarding cash and selling it to POS operators. The policy to limit cash withdrawals in a society that is yet to go full digital and with most of the population not savvy enough to use smart phone technology is not yet ripe for cashless digital no contact transactions. That's why the POS banks like OPAY were smart enough to introduce their own ATM debit cards and have very reliable USSD networks to serve their base who don't have or use Smart phones. The conventional banks are not interested in banking business and have their own rackets behind the scene that's why they treat their customers like shit. And its also on record that the brick and mortar banks are the ones with in house staff that steal their customers funds. Let them be arrogant like the dinosaurs they are , they will soon go extinct. The CBN should cut them off from the lending market. |
