[i]2027: Yahaya Bello’s Senate Ambition Not a Threat, Says Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan

Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has dismissed concerns that the decision of former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, to contest her senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections poses any threat to her political future.

The lawmaker said she is not under pressure over Bello’s declaration and described the development as welcome.

Speaking through her Special Adviser on Media, Mike Idoko, in an interview with Sunday PUNCH, Akpoti-Uduaghan insisted that Bello’s ambition would not unsettle her.

“We don’t see it as a threat. In fact, we are happy that he wants to contest. We are waiting for them,” she said.

The Kogi Central Senatorial seat is currently occupied by Akpoti-Uduaghan, who won the mandate in 2023 after a prolonged legal battle.

A lawyer and former governorship aspirant, Akpoti-Uduaghan made history as the first woman to represent Kogi Central in the Nigerian Senate.

Yahaya Bello, who governed Kogi State from 2016 to 2024, had earlier announced his intention to contest the Kogi Central Senatorial seat in the 2027 elections.

The former governor made the declaration during a visit to the palace of the Ohinoyi of Ebiraland, where he met with traditional rulers, religious leaders and other stakeholders from the senatorial district.

A video of the visit, including Bello’s declaration, was later shared on his verified Facebook page.

“I accept to run for the Senate in 2027,” Bello was heard saying while addressing the gathering.

Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, was present at the event alongside other political leaders and community stakeholders.

Governor Ododo was said to have appealed to his predecessor to heed calls from party leaders and constituents urging him to represent the district at the National Assembly.

The appeal was reportedly made in the presence of the Ohinoyi of Ebiraland and other influential figures from the area.

The Bureau Newspaper reports that the unfolding contest sets the stage for a high-profile political showdown in Kogi Central ahead of the 2027 general elections.

A failed governor and the worse of all the 36 states still want to contest for a political office.

Snare campaign, she's jittery at this point, forget the fact that she pulls crowd anytime she visits her home town that crowds her because of what monetary value she can offer, , aside the emotionally unstable Nigerians that supports her gallivanting online.
Bello despite his atrocities will shove her aside. He has the real support of his people.

Bello who should be currently serving jail term wants to force himself on the people again like they usually do, he's not even coming close to the iron lady who is capable of unseating the current governor if she so decides to run for that office today cool

Bello is taken Kogi people for granted, with the serious issues of corruption the EFCC has charged him with he still have the mind to want to represent Kogi

Some people don't have shame. It's a pity they do things and get away with it, with a back- up plan that when they finish would handle over to their children.

This your comment reeks of so much ignorance and sychopancy! Bello is a gonner where Natasha is, whether the election is free and fair or not!

Yes. Which is why she had no use for Akpabio and Tinubu.

Natasha will defeat Yahaya Bello again and have him laid out flat on the ground. He's merely contesting to whitewash his EFCC indictment, having pledged allegiance to Tinubu and getting the transactional man's "forgiveness".

The only way Yahaya Bello can win is by “ta-ta-ta-ta” grabbing it, snatching it, and running away with it like a criminal.

But before that, Yahaya Bello should first account for the N86 billion stolen from the people of Kogi State, of which the EFCC has investigated, with its chairman stating clearly that Yayaha Bello must be prosecuted and jailed or he would resign his position.
