With due respect your (purportedly) Islamic logic is convoluted. The driver did not choose anything - including his own actions. They were a result of cause and effect going all the way to his birth. Why didn't AJ use his freewill and decide he wanted to remain in the front sit as he initially was. Or the truck driver use his to decide he'd park the truck a different way?

This is philosophically complicated. I doubt it is the kind of topic any non-Muslim and some Muslims would understand so you should have explained better in away that they don't assume we shouldn't blame the driver for reckless driving.
