There are two main barriers to and and in the army.

First is to enter in the first place. Second is to rise above Colonel position.

I have seen the finest, brightest and fittest people denied entry, especially in SSC ones and NDA.

One fine and smart lady who was refused SSC despite scoring one of the highest marks in all areas tested, later travelled abroad. She's doing very well there.

She had nobody of the rank of a Brigadier-General or equivalent to recommend her. An insider told her very clearly.

This is a very proud and remarkable feat for a man especially an NCO in the army producing 2 children that climbed up to the general rank cadre. Congratulations generals. You were a big consolation to your dad who must have likely been a 63 NA personnel.
I don’t know what you’re celebrating here! Let both of them aspire to be COAS, that’s when they will know there’s a glass ceiling placed above their heads just because of their ethnicity!

They achieved this in 'a disgraced country'. They achieved this in the 'zoo'. Let's be mindful of the negative names we call our country.
They are actually serving the country putting their lives on the line. They could easily have served in the US army but they chose to enlist in the Nigerian army.

"Raised in the disciplined environment of the military barracks" that's a fat lie. Military barracks are some of the worst environments to raise a child.

Recall a thread where Major General V T Okoro visited his RSM when he was a young officer just joining the job. It was a rare act of humility by a senior military officer.

"Major General VT Okoro Traces Chief Sergeant Major CSM To Ibadan. "

I've met Gen. VT Okoro in 2Div, Ibadan and I can say, he's a fine gentleman and approachable officer. He has a pure heart.

cool

You don't aspire to be COAS.

It's a a political appointment, not based on merit

To join is one thing, but to rise to that pinnacle is a very different kettle of fish. If can't distinguish yourself in performance right from NDA, excelling at your various command postings and assignments, passing the mandatory promotion exams, Staff College, War College, NIPSS and being disciplined you can't climb to those ranks.

The present Emir of Sokoto, with all his nothern connections, and the toga of a Sokoto prince, is not at Brigadier-General he finally packed up?

Dey play

abobote:
Nothing special about this thread, their father was a military and it was easy for them to join as result

The gist is that the sons of billionaire Chief Razaq Okoya were invited by the EFCC over a viral video showing them spraying naira notes in a promotional clip — a conduct that many Nigerians see as misuse of the national currency. The police officer in the video was even detained for “unethical” behaviour. Meanwhile people are debating whether the law should apply equally to everyone.

Keep quiet dude

While it's possible they might have got in on their father's references there's no reality, no world where they will get that far without consistently delivering the goods
Does this apply to every other officers or just these 2?

I actually don't think the possibility of Peter Obi ever becoming the president of a Zoo ever cross these guys mind!
They continue to burn bridges yet wonder why they suffer isolation.

yet these people will claim marginalisation, that they don't give them promotions in the army.
Re: Meet The Okoro Brothers; General Sons Of A Retired Nigerian Army MWO by OMEGA009(m): 7:07am On Jan 06
NDA used to take just 3 persons PER STATE and one reserve. Now imagine the possibility of 2 brothers being selected either the same year or perhaps a year in between. When corruption favors is, we call it “grace”.
