This Is Too Much” – Mother of Two Cries Out Over Tax Deducted From ₦25,000 Transfer

A Nigerian mother of two has taken to social media to express frustration over a tax deduction applied to a ₦25,000 bank transfer, sparking fresh conversations around the country’s 2026 tax reforms. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

The woman, identified on Facebook as Nwawiri Amarachi, shared a screenshot of a bank transaction dated January 3, 2025, showing that ₦87 was deducted as tax from a ₦25,000 transfer.

According to her, the charge is excessive and raises concerns about how much Nigerians may end up paying in taxes as transaction amounts increase.

I was charged almost ₦100 for tax. Nigeria, which way? This tax is too much o. That means ₦100,000 tax fee will be very, very big. This is getting serious,” she wrote.

Her post has since gone viral, attracting widespread reactions from Nigerians who say similar deductions have become increasingly common.

The mother’s complaint comes shortly after another Nigerian raised alarm on social media over a ₦100,000 transfer.

The man, identified as @betsage4 on X (formerly Twitter), claimed that after sending ₦100,000 to his Zenith Bank account, he was credited with only ₦63,000.

The tweet, shared around 3:14 pm on December 31, 2025, quickly gained traction, recording over 188,000 views.

“Yo @ZenithBank, what kind of madness is this? I sent ₦100k to my Zenith account and saw ₦63k as balance. What’s going on?” he wrote.

Reactions to the mother’s post have been mixed, with many Nigerians expressing concern about the growing cost of bank transactions under the proposed tax reforms.

Some social media users also questioned whether additional charges or transaction descriptions played a role.

Alexer Joice asked, “You no put description?”

Necky Rhem commented, “Nigeria’s don’t want to do anything with it, they just relax. My sister, it is well.”

Ejemru Nnamdi added, “This is just the beginning, hmmm.”

As debates continue, many Nigerians are calling for greater transparency from banks and clearer explanations from authorities regarding transaction-related taxes.

Welcome to Tinubu Tax regine.

Some moorons who will also be victims are not tired of defending this fraudulent tax policies of this Tinubu govt.
They know why they tried to alter and insert certain clauses in the bill so that No one can protest or go to court to seek redress.
Very criminal minded Lagos boys Tinubu mounted in the CBN, Ministry of Finance and FIRS to serve his purpose .
Las las we will all be served.

Why are ID1OTS spreading FAKE news and causing panic for ordinary Nigerians.

“I was charged almost ₦100 for tax. Nigeria, which way? This tax is too much o. That means ₦100,000 tax fee will be very, very big. This is getting serious"

Stamp Duty is a FIXED charge of #50.
Whether you transfer #10,000 or #10 MILLION.

The remaining part of the #87 is likely just bank charges plus VAT on bank charges which would also remain the SAME whether you transfer #10,000 or #10 MILLION.

This is EXACTLY the reality on ground BEFORE the New Tax Laws were introduced.

It's just that instead of the #50 Stamp Duty to be deducted from the Receiver's account, it's now deducted from the Sender's account so that the receiver can get the FULL amount of the transaction.

Meanwhile, this one is already here spreading FAKE NEWS and panic.

This Single Mother of 2 (NOT surprised) is too DMUB.

And the INTELLECTUALLY-DEFICIENT people on Twitter are already lapping up the NONSENSE like it's spring water.

NOBODY WILL DEDUCT TAX FROM YOUR BANK TRANSACTIONS!

Another one said he transferred #100K and got #63K.

grin

I thought they said it won't affect the poor?

Even POS operators have increased their 10,000 withdrawal charges to 300 Naira now, not considering that the sender is also deducted 50 Naira.

Any over taxation always affect the poor

That clown’s claim that he transferred N100k and only N63k was credited to his other account is a barefaced lie. Where is the evidence, where is the proof to back up such a ridiculous story?

The guy obviously had an overdrawn account before making the transfer or lost his money through other means.

But, why are you always bitter? There's hardly a comment from you on this forum that doesn't start with an insult and ends with insult even when you are not being attacked?
Please don't attack me o, I have not eaten since three days ago.

People are misinformed about the description issue. Description has nothing to do with deductions. The fact is that the tax law wasn't properly done. Poor and middle class people are still overburdened.

Even thou the subject narration is inaccurate.

However, after misappropriating and siphoning country's resources.

After removing subsidies that should make life easy for citizens. The next step is for Tinubu and Oloyede to be deducting monies anyhow from struggling individuals accounts without their knowledge or permission.

People that are supporting this govt are sick honestly.

“Yo @ZenithBank, what kind of madness is this? I sent ₦100k to my Zenith account and saw ₦63k as balance. What’s going on?” he wrote.
I remember when I wrote this:

My question about this tax law to the government is:

1. For those who are unemployed without a salary account, who determines what is income from inflow of money into an unemployed person's account?

2. How would the tax be paid by such an individual, would it be deducted automatically from his account(if it is, who did the separation and calculation to determine what was income and what was inflow?), if it is not automatically deducted, do they expect such an individual to do that himself when we know most Nigerians will likely not want to do that?

3. If the 1 and 2 here are not effective, what incentives and direct benefits have the government provided for the citizens to encourage citizens to pay their taxes?

4. If the number 1, 2 and 3 are not effective for both the government and the citizens, is this not a failed tax law?

5. Why is the government compelling citizens to comply like citizens of foreign countries while the government doesn't want to comply to behave like governments of foreign countries?

Take this down moderator. This is not tax but bank transfer fee of N87 out of 25k.

This is propaganda against the government.

This shows you are a very local guy and have not travelled abroad in your life.

No wonder you behave and act so irritating.

There is nothing like bank charges for transfers within banks in the same country.

You will only be charged if you are making an international transfer to another country.

Most of you think that Lagos citizens were stupid when they choose Peter Obi over Tinubu.

You don't give a person with criminal record charge over the bank vault, he will surely turn the bank into his personal property.

His block head supporters will learn in a hard way.
