Matthew Vs Luke: Who Is Correct? Where Are They To Meet Jesus? by AntiChristian(op): 3:19pm On Jan 07
1. Matthew 28:7, 10 (Jesus instructs the women to tell the disciples to meet him in Galilee)
Context: After Jesus's resurrection, an angel appears to the women at the tomb.

Realted Verses:
Matthew 28:7 (ESV): "Then go quickly and tell his disciples that he has risen from the dead, and behold, he is going before you to Galilee; there you will see him. See, I have told you."
Matthew 28:10 (ESV): "Then Jesus said to them, 'Do not be afraid; go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee, and there they will see me.'"

Note: Jesus instructs the women to inform the disciples to meet him in Galilee, where he will appear to them.

2. Luke 24:36-43 (Jesus appears to the disciples in Jerusalem on the same day)
Context: On the day of resurrection, Jesus appears to the disciples in Jerusalem.

Realted Verses:
Luke 24:36-39 (ESV): "As they were talking about these things, Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, 'Peace to you!' But they were startled and frightened and thought they saw a spirit. And he said to them, 'Why are you troubled, and why do doubts arise in your hearts? See my hands and my feet, that it is I myself. Touch me, and see. For a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see that I have.'"
Luke 24:49 (ESV): "And behold, I am sending the promise of my Father upon you. But stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high."

Note: Jesus appears to the disciples in Jerusalem, invites them to touch him, and instructs them to stay in the city (Jerusalem) until they receive the Holy Spirit.

3. Acts 1:3-4, 12-14 (Disciples wait in Jerusalem for 40 days)
Context: After the resurrection, Jesus appears to the disciples over 40 days and instructs them to stay in Jerusalem.

Related Verses:
Acts 1:3 (ESV): "He presented himself alive to them after his suffering by many proofs, appearing to them during forty days and speaking about the kingdom of God."
Acts 1:4 (ESV): "And while staying with them he ordered them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, which, he said, 'you heard from me.'"
Acts 1:12-14 (ESV): "Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, a Sabbath day's journey away. And when they had entered, they went up to the upper room, where they were staying, Peter and John and James and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot and Judas the son of James. All these with one accord were devoting themselves to prayer, together with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and his brothers."

Note: The disciples remain in Jerusalem for 40 days after the resurrection, awaiting the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost.

Conclusion: Both Incidences Cannot Be True Simultaneously
**The accounts in Matthew and Luke/Acts present mutually exclusive instructions and locations for the disciples' post-resurrection meetings with Jesus.
**Matthew's narrative requires the disciples to leave Jerusalem immediately for Galilee.
**Luke and Acts require the disciples to remain in Jerusalem for 40 days.
**Therefore, both accounts cannot be literally true at the same time if taken as strict historical chronology.

According to the Gospels, Jesus Christ had at least 72 followers before he went to his death. undecided
8 So the women left the tomb quickly. They were afraid, but they were also very happy. They ran to tell his followers what happened.
9 Suddenly, Jesus was there in front of them. He said, “Hello!” The women went to him and, holding on to his feet, worshiped him.
10 Then Jesus said to them, “Don’t be afraid. Go tell my followers to go to Galilee. They will see me there. - Matthew 28 vs 8-10
The account in Matthew focuses on 11 of his followers, not on all of them, needing to meet up with him at a mountain in Galilee.🤔
16 The eleven followers went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus told them to go.
17 On the mountain, the followers saw Jesus. They worshiped him. But some of the followers did not believe that it was really Jesus.
18 So he came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth is given to me.
19 So go and make followers of all people in the world. Baptize them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.
20 Teach them to obey everything that I have told you to do. You can be sure that I will be with you always. I will continue with you until the end of time.” - Matthew 28 vs 16 - 20
Of note is the fact that the account does not indicate that it was on the same day of Jesus Christ's resurrection that they met up with him on the mount in question. undecided
2. Luke's account of events records Jesus Christ leading a group of other followers out of Jerusalem, towards the location where His ascension happened.
50 Jesus led his followers out of Jerusalem almost to Bethany. He raised his hands and blessed his followers.
51 While he was blessing them, he was separated from them and carried into heaven.
52 They worshiped him and went back to Jerusalem very happy.
53 They stayed at the Temple all the time, praising God. - Luke 24 vs 50 - 52
Also of note is the fact that neither did Luke suggest that the trip made by Jesus Christ of Israel and His followers from Jerusalem to Bethany took place on the same day that he was raised from the dead. undecided

The only same-day connection here seems to be Jesus Christ giving instructions to the women to go tell his disciples to meet up with him in Galilee, and his running into the 2 followers on the way to the town called Emmaus.🥱🥱
Re: Matthew Vs Luke: Who Is Correct? Where Are They To Meet Jesus? by Kobojunkie:
The instruction was not that they never walk out of Jerusalem from the point when it was given to them. We know this because Jesus Christ of Israel, the one who gave them the instructions, led them out of Jerusalem towards Bethany himself. undecided
45 Then Jesus helped the followers understand these Scriptures about him.
46 Jesus said to them, “It is written that the Messiah would be killed and rise from death on the third day.
47-48 You saw these things happen—you are witnesses. You must go and tell people that they must change and turn to God, which will bring them his forgiveness. You must start from Jerusalem and tell this message in my name to the people of all nations.
49 Remember that I will send you the one my Father promised. Stay in the city until you are given that power from heaven.” - Luke 24 vs 45 - 49
The mission was clearly that they start the work after he was gone from Jerusalem... and he remained in Jerusalem with them for a period before he eventually went out of Jerusalem with them to the point of ascension. 🥱🥱🥱

Problem is that the mention of the 40 days is of the period after He was raised from the dead, insinuating the period before his eventual ascension. 🥱🥱
1. The first book I wrote was about everything Jesus did and taught from the beginning
2 until the day he was carried up into heaven. Before he went, he talked to the apostles he had chosen. With the help of the Holy Spirit, he told them what they should do.
3 This was after his death, but he showed them that he was alive, proving it to them in many ways. The apostles saw Jesus many times during the 40 days after he was raised from death. He spoke to them about God’s kingdom.
4 One time when Jesus was eating with them, he told them not to leave Jerusalem. He said, “Wait here until you receive what the Father promised to send. Remember, I told you about it before.
5 John baptized people with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.”
6 The apostles were all together. They asked Jesus, “Lord, is this the time for you to give the people of Israel their kingdom again?”
7 Jesus said to them, “The Father is the only one who has the authority to decide dates and times. They are not for you to know.
8 But the Holy Spirit will come on you and give you power. You will be my witnesses. You will tell people everywhere about me—in Jerusalem, in the rest of Judea, in Samaria, and in every part of the world.”
9 After Jesus said this, he was lifted up into the sky. While they were watching, he went into a cloud, and they could not see him.
10 They were staring into the sky where he had gone. Suddenly two men wearing white clothes were standing beside them.
11 They said, “Men from Galilee, why are you standing here looking into the sky? You saw Jesus carried away from you into heaven. He will come back in the same way you saw him go.”
12 Then the apostles went back to Jerusalem from the Mount of Olives. This mountain is about a half mile a from Jerusalem.
13 When they entered the city, they went to the upstairs room where they were staying. These are the ones who were there: Peter, John, James, Andrew, Philip, Thomas, Bartholomew, Matthew, James (the son of Alphaeus), Simon, the Zealot, and Judas (the son of James).
14 The apostles were all together. They were constantly praying with the same purpose. Some women, Mary the mother of Jesus, and his brothers were there with the apostles. - Acts 1 vs 1 - 14
The above passage does not suggest that they waited 40 days in Jerusalem after Jesus Christ of Israel ascended. Rather, it suggests that Jesus Christ of Israel stayed around for about 40 days before he eventually ascended into the heavens. undecided

Junkie, the topic is Matthew vs Luke....? Luke wrote Acts and Luke. So you should get the gist! I shouldn't be doing the thinking for you!

You brought in Acts, and I made certain to address the topic as well. And as you clearly see, there is no conflict between what was reported in Matthew and in Luke, not even that collated in Acts. 🥱

When the gospels mentions disciples it is usually restricted to the twelve except otherwise stated.

That is a private delusion of yours and not according to the facts detailed in the books, which instead made clear that there were at least 72 disciples that Jesus Christ of Israel had before his death. 🥱🥱🥱
17 When the 72 followers came back from their trip, they were very happy. They said, “Lord, even the demons obeyed us when we used your name!” - Luke 10 vs 17

O! So Matthew wrote "meet me" but didn't see the "holy spirit" part. Luke didn't see the "meet me" but only the "holy spirit"! I thought the holy spirit was inspiring people to write the Bible? Or were they just writing, each on his own?
