The guy was careless period..if u are a trained driver ,u should know that u can only overtake a vehicle infront if and only if there's no obstruction in your front expect the vehicle u are about to overtake...but otherwise u should slow down and fall in line until you are free to overtake...running into a stationery truck is the height of negligence as far as driving is concerned....I just pity the man sha...because AJ is just lucky he's sitting at the back of the drivers seat...because is only natural for the driver to try at all cost to save his own life during this kind of chaos
Absolutely correct. We know the calibre of drivers we have in Lagos/Ogun axis. Zero regard for safety, traffic rules and everything. Which kind driving be that?

Driver from hell.

You're correct (about no involuntary manslaughter) if you're speaking entirely about Nigerian law. In other countries like the UK, US, Canada, Australia and so on, involuntary manslaughter is fully recognized. Also, just to correct some impression, while involuntary manslaughter is covered inside "manslaughter" in Nigeria, demonstrating that it's involuntary will contribute towards reducing the person's sentence, from the maximum end of the punishment to the lower end of the punishment, based on the judge's discretion.
Thanks,
In the western world, there's what they call First Degree Murder, Second Degree Murder etc.
We don't have it in our laws here - it's either Murder or Manslaughter.
Like I mentioned earlier, some circumstances can reduce Murder to Manslaughter.
Things like Provocation, Self Defense, Affray etc.

How come AJ allowed someone without a driver's licence to drive him?
Lawyers in the house, is this life sentence commensurate with the driver's offence?
FRSC is too reactive in my own opinion. I have never come across FRSC carrying out sensitization campaign at NURTW-controlled parks, educating drivers the dangers of excessive speeding, overloading, etc. How about some FRSC patrol vans? Your guess is as good as mine.

Thats what u think. But nigeria is not a place of law is a place of personalities. Do u think if u have a licence and u hit a high profile person my mistake u will be free?
If you hit a high profile or ordinary person while driving with your valid license does not mean you will go free. It is just a guarantee that one of the offenses you would be charged with is not going to be driving without valid drivers license.

Look, even if Nigeria is not a law abiding country as you may want to claim, it is better to err on the side of caution and ensure you are always on the right side of the law.

Was the truck not abandoned due to negligence? It was on a highway and a driver should feel the liberty to drive. Even though careless, but he could have also been killed. What of the truck drivers nation wide who crush and maim people daily?

Being a Nigerian is already the worst offense. If u are talking law instead of seeing how u will be above the law u are still joking

Kayode appeared before a magistrate in Sagamu on Friday charged with dangerous driving causing death, reckless and negligent driving, having no licence and driving without due care and attention causing bodily harm to damage and property.

If convicted he could face life in prison.

First off ehn, Nigeria nah double standard country 💔

Large percentage of Nigerian drivers nor get drivers license of which i stand to be corrected.

95% of commercial bus drivers for Lagos & across the country nor get drivers license & dem deh driverecklessly too.

Rickety Buses weh nor deh road worthy full for our road & government nor care.

This is tragic all round. Two lives lost, one man’s life likely ruined, and still no clear account of what actually caused the crash. Until there’s a full investigation, blaming only the driver feels premature.

I would have loved to know what really happened.

No one has really told us how the accident happened, what caused it or led to it.

I only heard a video interview of an eyewitness who said it was another vehicle that caused the accident and that it escape but even the eyewitness didn't say how or what the escaped vehicle did that caused the accident.
I also watched interview of eye witnesses ,and one said the same thing that another car caused it and sped off .These eye witness was among those that assisted Anthony Joshua also moved the bodies to side of the road before FRSC came so FRSC cannot claim that these boys didn't tell them what happened .Iam wondering why it's not officially stated that another car caused it .I just hope his Lawyer pulls these same first responders into the case as to testify.
Regardless of my above submission, the driver was careless in driving .The impact on that car is enough to prove he was speeding unless he wishes to state that the car was controlled for else where .Now I am hearing he is claiming the brake failed which could be true BUT what can't be denied was that he speeding

You're on point.
If there was another vehicle that contributed to the accident we need to know and we can only find out from the first responders who happened to be those guys around that spot of the highway.

Brake failure if the driver truly claimed that, because I didn't hear it from his mouth, would not fly. Not only because it is unlikely in such an almost new SUV, but also because even if your brake failed but you're still in control of the vehicle, I doubt any good driver would choose to ram onto a packed articulate vehicle as braking options.

From my own personal perspective, it's impossible for the driver to be completely excused from the causes of the accident.

I also wish Joshua can say something about how it went down.

Even if you are the President of Nigeria, you can only be above the law for a while; your immunity does mot last forever.
There was a time Malami was above the law but today he is sleeping in EFCC cell. Your best bet is to always be on the good side of the law, so that even when someone wants to victimize you, it is not easy for them to use the law.
