‘Fubara Is a Threat to Democracy’ — Speaker Amaewhule Barks During Impeachment Proceedings

Rivers State House of Assembly initiated formal impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu on Thursday, January 8, 2026, intensifying the state's political crisis.
In a plenary session chaired by Speaker Martins Amaewhule, Majority Leader Major Jack tabled a notice of gross misconduct against Fubara, supported by 26 lawmakers. The allegations, under Section 188 of the 1999 Constitution, cite financial recklessness and legislative obstruction—including failure to submit budget documents, unauthorized expenditures, diversion of House and Service Commission funds, demolition of the Assembly complex, and disregard for financial autonomy court orders.

Some people said tinubu helped Fubara to escape impeachment. But it is actually the opposite. Tinubu set a palatable ground for this rubber stamp speaker to gain his ground when Funara had them on their balls.

If only Tinubu can suspend the house of assembly for 6 months and hand over the the House of Representatives for the duration of, their head go correct

Amaewhule is the threat to democracy. Don't worry, you thrive in a crooked regime. When saner people take over, you will account for your misdeeds.

Even if they succeed

Anyone Wike puts on that governor seat will still behave like an average Rivers man in few months to come

Godfatherism isn’t our thing and can never be our thing

If Wike wants Godfatherism he should go do that in South west
I already thought of that plot twist, the same person Wike will put there will still betray him.

The speaker, Amaehule, is going to take over till the conduct of the elections. This is the reason why they are impeaching both the governor and the deputy. If that sails through, the speaker takes over.

1. In the beginning, I thought Fubara is wise but I was wrong.....

2. He thought his trouble will be over by decamping to APC but alas, it just started.

3. He turned his back to his parent (PDP) by lashing out to them, now, he is fighting with a Wi(c)ke(d) man.

If the impeachment succeed, he is completely finished...
It can't succeed that's fact. Wike and is ilk are just wasting their time. Fubara will definitely enjoy Federal backing together with APC NWC unlike during pdp.

Tinubu will want to cut excessiveness of Wike this time around. It is just matter of digging out one of his skeleton in cupboard through efccc and he will be battling court cases and possible arrest. The day Fubara joined APC he has checkmated Wike influence.

Wike is bent on destroying Rivers State just for his personal ambition.
To save Rivers State, Tinubu has to SACK WIKE NOW. Otherwise, I will continue to think that he (Tinubu) has a hand in the chaos in Rivers State.

A friend told me that if he’s Fubara, he will enter Rivers treasury, pull out #2 trillion and resign from politics. Im speaking for a friend.

Fubara, decamp to ADC then suspend all of them since they have officially decamped and according to the constitution they should lose their seat. Gbam!

His initial mistake was falling into the trap a Machiavellian and power-hungry Tinubu and Wike set for him by agreeing to a Tinubu-brokered ‘reconciliation agreement’! You shouldn’t trust the conniving and untrustworthy likes of Tinubu and Wike any further than you can throw them!

They won't impeach him all na political games. But the truth is from the look majority of the state stakeholders are not in support of the governor who is known to always break agreements.
The best thing for the APC is to get another person most of them are comfortable working with. If he could discard them within three months, repeated the same thing after the resolutions. He can always disappoint again.
They should stick to whatever agreements they had before now.

That could have been an option only if Fubara hadn’t decamped as well!

What other agreement could there be besides the one of handing over Rivers state treasury to Wike?

I see another state of emergency coming. And this time, both the house members and governor won’t come back till after next year’s election.
