well maybe, but I really don't wanna doubt it anyway, you know it's usually from December to February.
I remember 2021, it happened late as well and as a matter of fact, it occurred twice, it took a break for a week or couple then occurred again for another week or so till it went away.
I actually remember that precisely because I don't like to forget anomalies or strange occurrences

You are right my brother. Just to add to the list, Mangu, as well as the Vom, Riyom axis to Manchok, Fadan Kagoro. The cold there can be extreme too, whether during the rainy season or harmattan.

One fascinating thing about the harmattan cold is that, during the day between 11am to 4pm when the sun must have risen, you still feel cold and hazy breeze, but yet the sun is shinning. From 5:30PM everyone is already kitted up, LOL 😆

Nice of you to bring back memories. I particularly used to kit up extra as I struggle a lot with cold weather.


I never saw anyone use fans or air-conditioning during my years in Jos.

Plateau state is surely the coldest state in broader terms speaking of states...


But Jos isn't the coldest place in plateau state. They are colder places in plateau than Jos the state capital. Places like shendam, panskin, and some other places I can't remember now are colder. ( I hope I got those name spelled right) most of which are interior villages.


Jos just happens to be the most popular place in plateau state and so mention it.

I remember complaining about the cold in Jos until I got to panshin and shendam... the cold there is on a different level.


Jos isn't the coldest place in plateau state by a mile!

Jos happens to be the capital of Plateau State and yes it can be very cold even below 10⁰. But you see PANKSHIN where I was born and raised and I reside there. Temperatures can go below 6⁰ 🌡️🤒 at night and fog can last a while day with very low visibility. Rain falls here with ice blocks.
PANKSHIN is the coldest part of Jos, Plateau.

That means it is even cooler than N/Y and some European cities just as Op said.
Is there a season where snow falls there?
I for like visit there to have first hand experience.
Do this radical children of something something disturb there too?

When it comes to cold, abeg, include Ekiti State

All the people responding to the post are posting feelings. Just measure the temperature wherever you are to dispute the cold claims.

Few years ago,we were having a conference at UNN during my undergraduate days.
During the evening time like this,we will be strolling out in the street of Nsukka with some fellow participants who were from there.
We were wearing some casual wears like that out of our hotel rooms being late evening already,some on just short .
As we move from one street to another,we were enjoying the relatively cool breeze.
We reach a certain street there,omo,the atmospheric condition there changes automatically.See coldness see us with short casual clothes for body.
The breeze blow there very slowly but extremely cold like the plateau they are talking about.I told my friend that was from there that we should go back to our hotel rooms that it's about raining heavily.
The guy laughed at me and said it's not going to rain.That that is how their weather is normally like.He said there are some other part that if we continue to walk,the temperature can drop till I will look for sweater to wear.We stop there and turn back cos I started shivering already.As we reach where we we lodging, the temperature was very normal that I did not even look for heavy cloth to wear again.
It was wonderful experience sharr as different streets,mind you,not different cities, town or villages,I mean different streets in the same Nsukka town with different temperature ranges.
I really enjoyed everything over there.
Shortly after then,I experienced the same thing in Benue state around Effiom-Etekpa where we went for something.It was quite unlike the weather condition down far south were I stay that is uniform.
God is wonderful.
If not that the radicalized people with their radicalized religious ideology has turned most parts of northern Nigeria into battlefield, Nigeria would have been a lovely place to stay.
Most of the northern states I used to travel to to have a wonderful time are now NO go area for me.

Ekiti is generally cold during harmattan and part of the rainy season. The cold areas in the South are Ekiti, Enugu and Obudu, Cross Rivers.

I think the coldest place in Nigeria is the settlements and areas surrounding the Obudu Cattle Ranch, northern Cross-River and surrounding the Cameroons.

I have been to Taraba and I have lived in Plateau for a while but nothing compared to the time spent on the ranch.

The altitude combined with the temperature (very low for spring and early summer) caused major health issues to the iun-acclimatized.

Bros, try visit Panshin and Bassa LGA during harmattan season you go forget about Riyom/Gyel axis

There is also BIU plateau in Borno State. It gets very cold there in December.

Are You sure it's not almost nationwide? I wasn't happy I left Kaduna before the season, but I hear Harmattan dodged Kaduna too. In the whole of 2025, we only had about 4 days of not-so-much-Harmattan-weather in Makurdi to manage the heat.

Manbilia plateau is the coldest, not gembu but villages like Kakara,goroje,ibanga etc are very cold..during my 2 years of staying there.
Working and staying in plateau State... Places like Mangu,panskin, Ryom,von inside are very cold we are just experience this year coldness in January in Jos
